Looks good. Love the bait.....I'm a huge fan of Suicks. The first lure I ever made (March 2009) I believe was from a cedar ballaster I turned on my new lathe and cut the mouth out and put a couple round ball slugs in it and painted it black with a spray can....I still fish with it and love the action. Looks like you've inspired me to spin a few up this season.

Well done

Zach,

I was able to dig up an old photo of the bait we discussed. It was taken on 04/12/2009 (So I wasn't too far off)...makes me laugh...I thought it was pretty cool back then and I was pretty darn proud of it
Big fan of your work...keep the posts coming.

Happy Holidays

Nothing wrong with that bait at all. I've got a question though. You probably noticed that the bait tends to favor one side on the dive I don't think the screw eye is the problem. Do you think a metal tail properley tuned could give a little side to side action while it dives.

I do. Is there a way to get a bit more buoyancy also?  Take some weight out maybe?  It’s diving, but the rise isn’t quite there.  I like a dive-n-rise to be able to back out of cover.  With a tail and more buoyancy it should really come alive.  Please don’t take me wrong, the action is awesome and it’s sure to get bit, I just love talking about baits.

Right now, to me, the action seems a bit more like a squirko or pull type bait.

Reminds me of the Wiley Jerkbaits...Wiley doesn't make them anymore, but some certainly tended to dive or dart in one direction. Caught a lot of fish on those things and I still have a bunch....I feel as if its an "Is what it is" type deal and hard to control without the tail. That being said, some of those darters to one side only were my best fish producers! I'm a believer that all fish are different and have their own tendencies....the same applies to baits.

I agree I think a combination of less weight, and a tunable tail may help. The line pull will influence the action a lot as well. Did you try running it without the tail?
The action is cool' I can think of a number of spots right now where I would love to have it

thanks for the input guys i think im going to stick with the shape and try one with metal tail and tweak the weight some more. Plenty of time before the opener to figure this one out.
