Winterizing the boat this weekend and was wondering if if has used/does use Amsoil lower unit oil? I use their 2 stroke oil in my motor and seems to work fine, but don't have any experience with the lower unit oil. Thanks.

I've used it for several years. No problems. Comes out almost the same color as it went in - but so did the OEM stuff I used to use. I just like using what's supposed to be a better product. Kind of a 'peace of mind' thing.

I heard alot of good things about Amsoil. I plan on switching over in the Spring. I have a Mercury 25 two stroke. What Amsoil should I buy for the gas and for the lower unit. Will I have to do anything special. Thanks Tom.

Why wait til spring? Best time to service the lower unit is before you put it up for the winter. Rest easy knowing there is no water to freeze or promote rust in your lower unit.

I run Amsoil Saber Outboard Synthetic 100:1 oil. My motor has a tank where it can be mixed easily.

I run AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube in my Yamaha lower unit. I run AMSOIL Saber Outboard Synthetic 100:1 for gas/oil mix. Great stuff in my opinion, low smoke if any great idle ect ect… You’ll be happy with this stuff.

Great stuff. I run that oil in everything I own. Funny how I just finished my two lower units before I came inside and jumped on this site before dinner. Amsoil Rocks!!! Just run it and you will love it.

I run it even in my chainsaws, ice angers, 4 wheelers, truck, car, etc. Love it. Nothing has ever failed me yet. I like to think quality oil has something to do with it.

As long as the oil meets the requirements, any manufacturer has to warranty whatever product you have oil in. There is a law/court case that determined this years ago. Amsoil has a warranty also if you use their lubricants.

this is exactly right. If a mfg tries to void your warranty or says that they will they have to provide their lubricants to you free of charge to get around this law.

You guys are correct. If you are premixing your oil you want to use the Saber Outboard, if you have a oil injection system you want to use the HP or HPI and for the lower unit you want to use the Marine Gear Lube. All the links are below and if you have any other questions I am a dealer and can answer anything you need.

I have a 2 stroke Merc 25 Carb engine. Would I use Saber oil and would I use the 100:1?? With Merc oil I use 50:1 mixture.
Thanks Tom

Is it oil injected or pre-mix?? If it is the pre-mix Amsoil is saying mix it 100:1 with Saber Outboard or you could also mix it at 80:1 if you aren't feeling comfortable mixing it that lean. I do have customers running 100:1 and haven't had any issues. Also you can use the HP oil pre-mix but you are only supposed to mix that at 50:1 if you are pre-mixing or use the HP in a oil injection system. Amsoil has their mix ratios down pat and have lots of white paper experiments to show you that.

Thanks
Corey

I run Saber Outboard 100:1 and have been for 5 years. Runs flawlessly. I used to run Saber oil before they had outboard specific oil. I am at over 9 years 100:1 with no failures. I average about 170 hours on the motor a year (most of which is spoonplugging).

Yes and no. Amsoil 80-90 synthetic will do the job for your Opti.

Some manufactures call for dino-lube for lower HP, and a Synthetic blend or full synthetic for higher HP motors.
