I guess I'm going to have to learn how to sucker fish..... Only have done it once and it was a failure... I'm mostly confused on how you weight them.. any tips or advice?

I weight mine one of two ways------either a rubber core sinker on the braid before the rig(anywhere from 3/4 oz up to 1.5 oz) or put a bell sinker on a heavy snap before your favorite quickstrike. Either way works---just use enough weight to keep your suckers down. Keeping the line vertical helps with depth control. I've used several rigs---the Hulcano, Maina lift-off, Shumway's clip-n-go, and even circle hooks----they ALL work if you use them right. Good luck----Jobu

also trent one big key on any QS rig is to make sure that fish is going away from you. then set her hard. give it two good hooksets. if you use the rubber band method i always run the rubber through the snout then twist it to make it smaller and tighter against the sucker. this does 2 things. it will keep the rig snug against the sucker and make it tighter and it will then be easier to break on the first hooset. and the second nails it home. and as for the weight. basicly what jobu said i do make my own rigs and i make them 3 feet long. and on the top swivle i can add all my weight to keep them down. but if you have them under a bobber they have a tendancy to swim up as far as they can. this ok they will go back down. . if i have them under a bobber i want them to swim around. now if i am putting them below the boat i will use more weight so that it will keep them down. as they can still swim around the weight at the level i want them to be at....bill

I like to let them swim free with no weights.

Thanks for the invite Bill. I already talked to Curt and Chae about it last week--- I am going to try and make it. My fishing partner for the weekend is an author for Esox Hunt online magazine and a "former" author for MI magazine and a few other publications----gotta try and get him on fish so he can write some articles. Thanks alot for the invitation though-----I will try and get there before registration in the morning-----otherwise perhaps we'll just meet up with you at Curt's place for the get-together. See ya out there----Jobu

Kinda slow on Webster Sunday, we dragged a sucker and casted for about 5 hours, not even a follow. Also talked to a guy that had been working the lake for 3 days, and he had not seen a fish either. Water temp about 45*. YeOld has plenty of medium size suckers. Maybe they will turn on this week!!!

Just got home from Webster---GORGEOUS out there this weekend. Bobzilla scored a nice low 40 inch class on a sucker. Ended up 2 for 3 ---had about 10 follows on various baits---fish were moving---had to cover a TON of water. Ye Olde was almost OUT of suckers. They ordered 125---got 120 not sure if they are gettingany more this season---but there were only a few dinks left in the tanks as of this am. Water clarity is getting better-----fish were following HARD. Maybe next weekend's cold snap will get 'em snappin'. Good luck-----Jobu

Another successful outing on ol' Webby this weekend. Mikey scored a beautiful 42" ---not a mark on her---awesome! The weather was all over the place but it got absolutely beautiful at sunset last night---just in time for Bobzilla to raise a genuine 50" just before his trip back to Ft Worth today. You'll get one next time Spanky Joe-- a great time was had by all! Next weekend -----ST CLAIR!!!!!!!!!!!----jobu
