Posts: 173 Location: Minnesota | If you had one lake in the metro to fish for skies this time of the year what lake would it be? I usually don't fish this late in the year so was wondering what lake produces.

Posts: 190 Location: Savage, MN | Fished tonka yesterday. All buoys still on west side and part of east. Buoys are out on gray and wayzata bays. 5 hours, 2 boats and not a single sighting.

It is THE metro lake. All buoys are off the lake. I watched a guy take out his lower unit on my favorite boulder yesterday. If you don't know the lake, slow down when you get in shallow stuff!! Water temps were 47 -49 . Joe [email protected]

Is there any reason it wouldn't be a metro lake?!?

Posts: 454 | Boy were the fish going in the metro today! Wish I could go back tomorrow.....but most likely have other things to take care of on the "to do" list. Many boated and a few lost opportunities as well.

Posts: 454 | My buddy has a couple on his phone, but nothing huge so it was just pop the hooks and release. All fish came on suckers. Lost one in the 48" range but nothing over 44" hit the net. Still fun though.

Any ice on the lake yet? Still able to access the water?

Posts: 833 | This is as of Saturday: Western Channels were pretty well locked, couldn't go past Fletchers. Maxwell channel was locked up as well. Maxwell ramp also locked. North Arm channel was open due to wind. Heard a report that Greys was locked up. Not sure if more main lake stuff is still open, like the Spring Park Ramp. It won't be long, she was making ice in Crystal on Saturday when the wind died down.

Posts: 833 | I do not know for sure, but I would try Spring Lake Park ramp on Tonka or else the Wayzata Mooring Launch, in Wayzata bay. (place with all the sail boats.) You are going to want a ramp that is on a big, mainlake bay, that might still be open. My guess is it is going to be tough luck, but that is just a guess. No clue on the city lakes.

Posts: 1144 Location: Minnesota. | I'm likely not the only one to do this but be careful backing into bays that are iced over "a little bit". Did it a few yrs. back walleye fishing. The bay was iced up to about 80 yds out then open...seagulls standing around gawking...the ice close to shore broke and showed maybe 1/8" to 3/16" thk. Backed my boat in and subsequently busted all the trailer lights out as it was over an inch at the back of the boat.... Just saying. I fished after I got her turned around and it seemed to be around 1" all over. Was a bugger...and nothing was going on....walleyes... PITA but I really wanted to fish as it got to be 50 deg out in Nov. in MN.
