Just got my Woods and Waters. In the photos on the last page showed a 52" slob caught out of Pewaukee. Any of you southern guys know anything about it??

Sure,

I was out there that day. The guy got it on a top raider in late September. It was a nice fish, a rare Pewaukee fatty. After it was released it went belly up in the middle of the lake. Elroy and Nancy Hinkforth found it only 1/2hr after it was released. They put it in thier livewell for about 3 hours. I saw it in thier livewell and of course at the time we did now know what happened to it. The Hinkforths did a fantastic job bringing the fish back from the stressful situation and the fish swam off strong.

Thank god the Hinkforths were there or it would have been gull food in no time.

Notice the vertical hold on the photo...that might have been what made this fish go belly up after it was released. It was also bleeding in the photo and we dont know how many photos were taken. But I heard the guy is a member of MI, so I am sure he did his best to take care of the fish. Hats off to the guy for releasing it, most fish like that have been caught in Pewaukee have been killed. It was a really nice fatty with a very very wide back when I saw it in Hinkforths livewell.

I have a question concerning the blood in many of the pics I see. There were several pics of Indiana Musky at a local Bait Shop and I noticed two real big fish caught last spring. One is our new state record and the other was caught by the same guy a few weeks earlier. The first fish caught was released, but in the pic it was loosing a lot of blood. I guess the guy uses Dawgs and they really swallow them deep. My question is, what is the best way to remove baits when the fish eats it deep?? I have heard a few guys cut the hooks off and let them rust free. Does this work? Thanks for the board space. I plan to get out for a while this weekend. Its gonna be cold and windy!!!But Im not ready to put up the tackle. See you on the water.

definately cut the hooks on a fish like that, stress is the killer in most situations, but a deep hook can be just as bad. Cut them and see after the bait is out if the hook easily comes out, if not leave it CPR the fish and make sure it swims away strong.
Musk.

Thanks for the reply J. Glad to hear that it sounds like the fish is still there.
