Posts: 245 | I know a guy who tried it, he liked it for casting big baits for big pike Problem is it's only 30lb test in 20lb diameter.

Posts: 128 | MuskieSwede - 10/16/2012 1:49 PM I know a guy who tried it, he liked it for casting big baits for big pike Problem is it's only 30lb test in 20lb diameter. We don't NEED to use 65-100lb test for the lb test, more for the diameter to keep it from digging into itself. And some resistance to snapping when tossing big lures and something goes wrong (yet that still happens) I'd feel more comfortable w/40lb test or so, and if that happens I'm trying it.

Posts: 245 | Yeah you don't need much more than maybe 15lb test to fight a fish (trust me, put a scale to your line and let a friend hold it while you HAMMER a hookset with your stiffest rod, you'll be surprised). But a backlash with 15lb test and even a small 2 oz lure and the lure will go flying. Also i fish a river where theres alot of rocks and logs to snag on and with stronger line i can usually get my bait un-snagged. I'd never go under 50lb for my pike fishing with casting gear.

Getting back to the main point of this line - are there any applications where having a braid that stretches is desired?

Posts: 1100 | When you have a bachlash its good to have some stretch to absorb the huge amont of energy. Otherwise im not sure.

Posts: 245 | Zinox, a good Spectra braid (not Dyneema, like Spiderwire) will usually hold up even in a bad backlash. Haven't lost a lure due to backlash in two years since i started using Power Pro and Tuf Line XP in 50-65lb test. Stretch is great for trolling and also when using very stiff rods i think it could help.
