| Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I love Thanksgiving!
Every other Holiday is very busy for me. My family all lives in SW Wisconsin so I always have to travel to see them for all the other Holidays. I have to work tomorrow so on Thanksgiving I stay home with just my beautiful wife and 2 lovely daughters.
I have the beer sitting in the garage in the Tuffy getting cold, the turkeys is in the oven, and the fire in the fireplace is just getting warmed up. Nothing to do but eat, have a few beers, watch some TV and enjoy everything I have[:halo:]
Hope all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving. God bless.

| Happy Thanksgiving to all. Wife started ours at 5:30 this morning. We had round 1 around noon. Will be watching football and enjoying family and round 2 should come up around 6 or so.
Then, I'll be kicking myself for the next 2 days about how much I ate. Good thing it only comes around once a year.

| Happy Thanksgiving everybody. What a great holiday we get to celebrate in this great country of ours!
I'm at my Mom-in-Law's again for this holiday. Just got done eating, and now I'm streching my arms out to reach the keyboard![:knockout:] What a great day I've had. Started out in the stand this AM, and watched a nice doe walk right under me, and she then went an layed down in the pines about 50' away. I watched her for about an hour, and some guys walking down the sand road scared her off. Came in to watch some football, do some chores for my M-I-L, and then took Eric out for the traditional Turkey Day afternoon hunt.
We have permission to hunt this crop field only on Turkey Days. We went out at 3:00 PM, and got situated in our ground blind. About 3:30, we heard some deer approach from our right. Two does walked past us, not 10' away. Never noticed us. Just kept walking by, until some turkeys got their attention in the next field. They got a little nervous, and headed out across the field.
About 4:15, I saw a deer come out of the woods about 150 yards out. I put the glass on it, and didn't see antlers. Another doe. I kept glassing it, and then, as it turned it's head, I got a glint from of a ray from the last bit of sun! It was a buck!
I put the crosshairs of the Nikon on the shoulder, and squeezed of a shot from my BAR. At the bark of the gun, the deer disappeared. Did I get it? I glassed the terrain, and saw nothing. Eric said he saw the deer jump once, and then disappear. We looked at each other, and I said we better go look. 175 paces later, we found the buck. It was just a forkhorn, but I was as proud of this buck as any. This is only the second buck I've seen in about 10 years on this land. After losing the land I've hunted for the past 12 years, I wasn't even sure I was gonna hunt this year. But I wanted to get out with Eric, as he will be going next year for real. I hope he learned something today. I know he sure was excited when those does walked by us, and I hope I taught him to be sure of the target.
Well, sorry for being long winded, but I had a great day with my family. I hope everyone else had a great day too. |
