How does the H predator blank compare to the big nasty? is it the same in terms of its versatility or a little less? Ive used the XH and thought it was the perfect rod and now im curious about the H blank

i can not comment on if it is like the big nasty, but i would have to guess it is a much lighter blank. I have one and it isnt comparable to the sling blade, it is lighter in action.

I believe the big nasty is heavier in action than the sling blade.

hope this helps.........Rob

Much lighter blank than the big Nasty. I use mine for cranks, twitching, top waters and light stuff. I also have the big nasty which i use for 10's and up. Big difference between the two blanks. The heavy predator is my favorite rod but it can't handle the heavy stuff in my opinion.

It is a lighter blank which can be used for up to the double 10's if needed, as I am pretty sure that was its original intent.

I have used mine for double 8's, large eagle tails, large ghosttails, and topwaters with no problems. I also have used it for the double 10's also.

Depending on what you like to throw would dictate if the XH is a better fit I would think. I throw no rubber for a number of reasons, so mine is a nice fit for me.

I have the H Predator with 1" trimmed off the tip to give it more power. This rod is 9'6". It handles 10s like a dream, which is it's niche. I also throw 13s with it because it casts them so nicely, but the rod is a tad soft in the tip with the SM. The big advantage of that blank, IMO, is the light weight.

I know that BTURG is now using a custom H blank at 9' with 2" off the tip. He has said this rod will throw pounders, but I haven't personally used it. I'm sure if you talk to him or Thorne they can provide you with the details. This is a great demonstration of the advantage in going custom.

I have both rods.

The H Pred is a dynamite rod for anything 10 blades or smaller. its a little soft in the '8" with 10's but personally I like it that way. I usually have a a LJV or 14 Trinidad on it depending on my need for speed. Its caught more fish for me than any rod in my boat the last 3 years. It also works well for smaller cranks, Rubber, Top water etc... If anything its closer to the Sling Blade (my personal Topwater/do most things everyday rod) than the Big Nasty.

The Big Nasty is defintely beefier. Its closer in performace to an XH Pred (Which I also have and use quite a bit). For me its strictly a bucktail rod. I have a 14 Trinidad on it and it performs awesome for 13's or 10's. I am sure it would do better with smaller baits too but for me I go to my H Pred for them. It could handle Mag Dawgs, Big Cranks well too; I do not use it for this personally I use my XH Pred for this too.

Mojo, how big of crankbaits can you throw with the H predator? How would it do w/ a 10" jake sized bait? And did you have anything trimmed off the tip? Thanks.

I toss up to 10 Inch Squitely Jakes with the H but mostly Big Game or Custom X 8 Inch Cranks or smaller. I chuck alot of Shallow Invaders etc with the H... Anything 10 or larger I usually go up to my XH Pred. I do not have anything trimmed off the tip. Its the strandard 9 Ft Length. I have used Bob Turgeon's with the 2 inches trimmed off a couple times in the past and it is pretty sweet. It definately makes it more of an "overall" rod for bigger baits.

Good info, thanks. I must really like light-for-application rods, I prefer my mh predator for 8" big games... with my 20 steel it doesn't load up as much on the cast and my accuracy suffers. Maybe I'm just not used to it.

My issue with the H on the cranks isn't so much casting them, it is great for that. I just find the tip to be a softer than I would prefer when twitching/ripping.
