I am looking for a rod that is equal to or preferably has more backbone than the slingblade. It will be used primarily for mag dawgs but not pounders.
How does the TI 9' XH compare to the slingblade and the St Croix Big Dawg in action? My friend has the 9' TI XXH but i felt it was a lot more rod than the slingblade. Just wanted some opinions before I order one.

XXH in my opinon. I have the 8' XXH and it throw's mag dawgs well. I think the XH will flex to much. i have the 9' XH and to me its not as stiff as other XH rods i own.

Sounds to me like a No Brainer, the TI 8'XXH is the rod you are looking for. It was basically designed for the baits you want to throw. Mike Sr.

Landry,
I don't have any experience with with St. Croix rod you mention but I do have 9' XH and XXH TI rods. I guess I've generally subscribed to using the lightest rod you can that will allow to you cast and work the bait comfortably and effectively as well as set the hooks and play fish well. I bought my XH first and used it for everything, even a Pounder now and then but it was light for that. For Cowgirls to Mag Dawg size baits I thought (and think) the XH is a great rod. Even though I have the XXH, I still use the XH for Mag Dawgs and the 8 oz size Hard Head.

With that said, I was using my 9' XXH to throw a Gerry's Girl double 10 last Sunday and was very impressed at how well it threw them, considering that it will fling a Pounder all day without flinching. I'm sure it would do a great job casting Mag Dawgs, and it's still a pretty light weight rod (actual physical weight).

If it were me and I knew it was for Mag Dawgs ONLY I think I would still get the XH... If you are going to go Mag Dawgs and lighter probably the XH. If you think you'll normally do Magdawgs at the lightest weight with the potential to throw heavier stuff probably lean towards the XXH.

All boils down to personal preference but I think either would suit you well.

When I go to Canada I personally use the XXH to throw anything form a 7" Suick to Pounders. I like my XH too but just prefer the XXH most of the time.

Landry,

IMO you will really like the XH rod. My XH telescopic is very comparable. I like it a littel better actually. Can't go wrong with a TI rod.
