| So I've noticed more and more this year that unless a fish is really big (which hasnt hapened much this year for me) or has some cool markings I don't bother with a pic. I'm all for snapping pix, just curious how many of you do water releases. I kinda like getting back to fishing quicker as well. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've caught a pretty decent handful of muskies, but I still like getting a picture of them. Not always to post all over on the internet (sometimes though, ha!), but it helps remember the fish, the day, etc. Plus I just like pictures. If I'm by myself I might not be too worried about taking a picture of a 34 incher. If somebody's with me and can take a picture of it quickly as I pull it out of the net quickly why not? Anything 40 inches or better and I do like to get a picture as long as it doesn't feel irresponsible to do so.

Location: oswego, il | Sketch artist. It is costly hiring one for a day but having my fish done in charcoal, pencil or water color looks great. I have found that oil paintings take too long and can be harmful to the fish keepjng them out of the water too long.

| my biggest problem is i forget it or the adrenaline makes me temporarily too retarded to work my camera. with the hotter temps the past few years though i've water released quite a few more fish and sometimes it's kind of cool to keep the whole experience all between you and the fish and not worry about anything else. |

| Every time I put up a picture or show one on my phone to somebody, they say, "Nice fish...who caught it?" Maybe it's the reputation or maybe it's just the "class" of my friends, but I'm not taking pictures unless it's at least 30" or bigger from now on!  |

| The last few years I've taken less pictures of fish under 40". I've got a lot of really nice memories of past fish and I think I'm getting lazy in my old age. But when I do get something a little bigger or with some strange story with it I'll snap a few off. However, I did have a major gaff this past month. I caught a really nice fish out of the Chain (48.25") I'm fishing alone. So I set up my camera on the Iphone which has two settings a single shot mode and multi shot. Long story short I asked my wife to download them and she informs me that I have one nice shot of my big rear end humped over the side of the boat. One very bad picture. But what are you going to do. It happens. |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | If I am out fishing by myself I wont take a picture unless it is a PIG in which case all I can really do is make a video of the fish in the water/net before I release it. One of my buddies doesn't take pictures of anything less than 50" and even then if he is alone, he dosen't then as well. When I asked him why, He said "how many pictures of 40 in fish does one really need"? To me it makes sense. If I am out with a buddy fishing then yes, I will take a picture.

| If I have a picture, I'll remember the day, the conditions, the fishing, and the fish. I will aslo remember where I caught it, on what, with whom, when, whether it was windy or cloudy or sunny, etc.
If I don't take a picture? I might remember hat we caught a fish. If it was over 45 I might remember how big it was. But without the picture? I've got nothing. |

| gopro's or other hd video cameras are quite handy when fishing alone. if i'm out there solo, my gopro is mounted to my rear light post and is always recording when i'm fishing. that way if i get a fish, the whole thing is on video, but more importantly i can hold it up to the camera for 2 seconds and later save a screenshot from the video. there's no fumbling with camera timers or tripods which lets me unhook, photo, measure and then release as quick as possible. |

i use the GoPro branded Handlebar Mount (i bought some sticky foam tape so it grips the post a bit better too and doesnt slide):

for batteries, i bought the Battery BacPac which houses a 2nd battery and attaches to the back. if you don't want to buy the BacPac just have a 2nd battery on hand (buy from Amazon or GoPro, don't get it from BestBuy as their prices are higher):

this paired with a 16gb or 32gb memory card should give you plenty of recording time. if your card fills up mid-day just clear the previous recording if you didn't catch one. you can even pickup a third battery if you wish, but it takes a pretty long day on the water to go through 2 batteries.
i also have a small float attached to my GoPro incase the handlebar mount were to fail. it never has, as it's a very secure mount, but sometimes freaky things happen and i wouldn't want my camera sitting at the bottom of the lake. |

Batteries last about 2.5 hours, and are $10 each. I use 32 gig mini sd cards, plenty of recording time, especially set on 720P. |

Location: Cedar Falls, IA. | Here's my setup. I fish alone 80% of the time so it works good in my little Jon. I bought the ram handlebar mount, I can just pull the arm off when using the back deck and seat. I think I'm going to order a few more of the ram mounts to have some different options with two people. I just switch out the batteries, and use the wifi backpack to run it from the front of the boat, works pretty slick. My next project is to figure out a mount for under water shots. Was thinking about attaching something to the trolling motor shaft similar to what I have going here with another ram mount.

A large share will swim right off given a few mins to sit upright in the bag. I have had a couple this year I wished I would of taken a photo of but by the end of fall those wishes will be gone! |

| So are you mounting to the stern light post? Or do you have something in the rear deck pedestal? I am leary of putting something on the stern light, just seems like I’m asking for it to break off, given the physics of it. Looks like in the photo you have a custom set up to stick in the seat mount? Care to share?
Just trying to come up with a better place to mount the thing, I don’t care for the head mount right now as I’m still gaining confidence in my fishing and would rather focus on improving in that area vs. dinking with the camera on every spot.

| Hell, it's a no-brainer. I tell people that I'm catching more fish but being more selective with the size of fish that I photograph, and then hang empty frames all over the house.
