you have to be careful or you could end up wearing a plain orange tee shirt and hat from a bait company that is no longer in business when you post a picture of your personal best

I still wear hats and jackets from a tackle shop that closed, I was and still am good friends with the owner. Plus I could care less what other people think about what I wear when I am musky fishing, style has never been one of my strong points.
Here is what I like to wear, A long sleeved Columbia shirt, tan in color,as the weather cools,a flannel shirt, then I move onto insulated flannel. When it gets cold into mid to late November I put on my ice fishing suit, warm and blocks the wind.

Northwind Mark - 9/12/2012 9:36 PM I try so hard to just move on from it....but, Just so I understand the thought process here......you won't wear a logo or name brand item because "you won't be a walking advertisement of other people's products." But it's OK to be an internet posting advertisement of other people's products? It's different? Like so many posts I read, I'm missing something here. And then along came the fassion contest comment and that did me in.
Dont let it get to you, Mark - you're talking about people here who will go out in all kinds of weather, spending thousands of dollars to go out and cast lures that cost $20 each at a fish they might not even see that day. When they DO catch one, all they do is put it back in the water. Half will catch a 47" fish and call it 50", the other half will look at a picture of a 47" fish that someone else caught and call it 42". To make matters worse, most will tell you that everything you are doing and all the gear you are using is wrong, and the only "right" way to catch muskies is to do exactly what they do. If you catch big fish, it's only because you fish trophy waters and got lucky a few times. If you catch a lot of fish it's only because you fish numbers lakes and count the fish other people catch in your boat. Whatever rods you use, someone will tell you tell you the rods THEY use are better. The same goes with reels and lures, motors, boats, trucks, and even clothes. I don't know what it is about muskie fishing, but somehow, most muskie anglers have the attitude that muskies did not exist in the world until they started fishing for them. So, the fact that you don't understand the rationale behind some of the comments? I'd be much more worried if you DID.

I vote to have this definition of 'muskie fishermen' put into Webster's dictionary!  It's perfect!

First, you have to get the quote right. What I said was "As a rule I don't pay to be a walking (casting) advertisement of other people's products." I didn't say that I won't wear t-shirts, etc. with logos on them, I said I won't pay for them.

I'm sure there are many guys who have sponsors, so they are getting "paid" in some way or another so they wear the sweatshirt, hat, etc. and that's fine. Other guys may want to buck up for a hoodie that has picture of a DCG, bulldog, or a Musky Hunter logo on it. That's fine too. My point is if I have a choice between a warm, plain, grey sweatshirt from Fleet Farm for $20 vs. a $35 sweatshirt with a fancy logo on it I'm going to save the extra $15 and do something else with it. Then again, I've never been a slave to fashion, musky related clothing or otherwise...

Thanks addict. Defined to perfection.

Someday when I see Steve, or Slamr, I will tip my Lund cap, and I will buy them at least one cold one.....

Because I don't know how they continue to do it. Thanks.

I'm with Ben here. Fish like I sleep. In the buff. Except when it gets cold. I pull out the soft pink fur thong to keep the jublees warm.

I'm with you Steve....one day while fishing on Okauchee I saw Joel's boat guiding a couple of clients and when he reached into the tackle box......man that pink thong is disgusting. What do the neighbors say?
But most of my attire comes from what the kids or wife have found at Gander or Bass Pro. Me I wear just about anything to stay warm or cool.

Well... In order to be a "real" muskie angler, you have to dress the part, especially when it comes to branded merchandise. So if you run a Ranger, a Ranger jacket is a must. If you run Merc, a Merc hat/sweatshirt is a must. The more branded clothing you wear, the more fish you are likely to catch, and big ones at that. Comfort and utility are secondary. It's also a good way to display to other anglers what the appropriate equipment is, so they know their lack of success on the water today is due to using the wrong boat/rods/reels/motor/etc.

Personally, I prefer clothing that provides me with the greatest comfort. I don't want to be any hotter than necessary when it's 90. I don't want to be any colder than necessary when it's 38 and raining. That said, I do have lucky shirts and a lucky hat. I do prefer to wear something with a muskie on it when I am muskie fishing, sort of like when you go to a restaurant and wear that little lobster bib with the picture of a lobster on it. Or when you go to one of those black tie things - you wear a black tie, right? You wear a suit when you go to the symphony. So when you go muskie fishing, it's appropriate to wear fishing clothing. It's also appropriate to wear clothing that advertises your favorite sports team.

Care must be taken though - you dont want to wear a Bears shirt fishing in Northern Wisconsin. The muskies, they know. The guy with the Packers shirt WILL outfish you that day.

Wish I was cool. I just wear camo shorts everyday. (Got a couple pairs of the same ones.) If the weather gets cool I bust out the Rapala sweatshirt. Top it off with my Tanglefree trucker hat. Thats how I roll!!! I would sport some muskie appearal if I could find something really cool. Don't want to look like the next guy standing at the launch.

I suggest that you buy a hooded sweat shirt from one of the local Muskies Inc Chapters which 1) some are very cool looking and 2) help support the Muskie fishery.
