| I have an Okuma 9ft 3 Xh that I use for my magnum bulldawgs and pounders and I do a lot of jerking and ripping with it. Anyway the result of this is that the tip keeps comming loose and twisting. I have reglued it several times and it's held for less than a full day usually. I was just wondering if there was any special glue or something I could use that can stand up to the major abuse I put it through. Rest of the rod is good. Just the tip that keeps comming off. Thanks! |

| I had the same problem on the same rod, actually two of them...
I used hot glue for archery inserts in aluminium arrows and it has been holding for a year plus. Be sure to put heat on the tip top, not on the rod tip. Grip the tip top in some pliers and heat it up then melt the glue down into the hollow tip. Press and align onto the rod while still hot. You might want to use a fine sharpie to scribe a line for alignment before you glue as there is not a lot of time before the glue sets when you put it on. |

| a few weeks ago my rod tip fell off of my okuma. Mine is an 8'6" XXH. I just used some Berkely rod tip glue and put it back on. |

Location: Minnesota | Try to remove as much of the old glue before regluing the tip back on... Use a pin for inside the tip and sandpaper and/or razor blade for the rod... then use devcon epoxy... that rod tip wont come off!!! |

| I agree with Devcon 2 Ton, but don't be in a hurry. Let it cure for 48 hrs. before you start slinging big lures with it. |

| Devcon 2T is a good choice, I didn't try that. Gives you more time to align.
What is up with the Okuma rod tips? Sounds like a common problem. |

| Epoxy!?! I know I'm hard on equipment but I usually replace several tips over the life span of a rod. How removable is epoxy? What do you when you break an insert? I'd stick to the hot glue. If done correctly it will stand up to major ripping! I rip 10# milfoil balls hard enough to destroy TEs and my tips stay put(MI and Thorne customs)

Location: Smith Creek | I agree with Ben. If you use epoxy and the insert cracks you'll have to cut the blank at the tip. Get some plastisol from Thornes or St. Croix and be sure to clean the blank really well.
Plastisol looks like shards of glass, you put it in a cuisinart and grind it to a powder form (SC's is already ground up) fill the replacement tip with the powder, heat it to liquid form, install, align, and stick it in a glass of water, chip away the excess and you're good to go. |
