I have done it a couple times, green treated wood, and use a good quality glue to attach the indoor/outdoor carpet to the wood, especially around the end where you are driving on, before securing with long staples.

When I replaced mine I had a guy cut some tamarack 2x4's for me. They worked great and hold up longer.
I used roofing nails to hold the carpet in place. Works better than staples.

just replaced mine this spring. i picked up treated 2x4's from home depot and got the carpeting/staples/staple gun from menards. menards has a couple different options for outdoor stain and mold-resistant carpet that will work for making trailer bunks and it always seems to be on sale.

here's a tip:
instead of buying 1 big roll of carpet and needing to cut long strips for each bunk yourself with a razor, figure out how wide you need each strip of carpeting to wrap a 2x4 or 2x6 and have them do it with their machine as they cut it off the roll. saves time and you'll get nice straight cuts

I put bunks under my Alumacraft and during my research found to NOT use green treat wood. Supposedly it eats/corrodes aluminum. I used Red cedar 2x6's and they've been under it for 5 years and still goung strong. My carpet wore though in one spot and I need to recover the bunks, but the wood itself is in good shape.

Good choice. Plus make sure you use stainless staples. If not, they'll be gone in no time.
