| Anyone using a portable heater in the boat during the cold weather? What is the best out there? I am buying a propane that will triple as a deer stand a boat, and Ice Shack heater.[] |

|
| I've got one of those Mr. Heaters that works with small propane bottle. Works great...keeps my small shanty warm (Clam Jr.), will thaw reels and keep hands/feet warm out in the boat and you can use it as a burner so we have a little chili to go with all the cold weather fun.
The footprint is kinda wide so can be an issue where space is a premium.
I'm sure there are better models out there but this one works for me.
I think I go through a cylinder of fuel every 6-8 hours if I run it on low the whole time.

| Steve, I agree with Jono. Mr Heater is the way to go. I have 2 of them. One for Ice fishing is the Mr. Heater/Cooker. I use it with a 20 lb. tank, and it has a 6' hose.
For the boat, I have a Mr. Heater single. I mount this right on a 5 lb. tank. I've gotten 3 or 4 days out of the tank, depending on how high I turn it up.
Either unit can run off propane bottles.
Stay warm, and stick a trophy! |

| I got a Coleman Power Cat portable heater. It also has a built in battery powered fan. It only has a 3000 BTU output, but is very portable and I keep it in the truck for winter emergencies. Its also good for warming cold hands on the boat.

| Tough to get old...my memory just stinks..[:knockout:]
Some time in the last week or so I was talking with someone that had a 12V heater with a small fan mounted under the consol of their boat.... Sounded like way cool of an item... I had never heard of it before, the guy said it was purchased at an RV/Camper type place.
If I think of it, I'll post it. Anyone else heard of such a thing.
Mr. Heaters work well too....just thought this electric gizzmo would be kinda cool to check out.
They say the memory is the first thing to start slipping......[]

| I agree with RAZE1, the Coleman , mine is a Black Cat model. They make several different models. They are listed as being designed for indoor use, with less CO output for greater health safety, not a factor in an open boat, but in an enclosed ice shanty it sure keeps the headaches from CO buildup from starting.I've used one the past 2 years and have been very pleased. |

| Anyone else? I am headed out tomorrow to buy a heater that will double as my deer stand heat.[] |

|
| I went to Wal Mart last night and they had Coleman SportCats on sale for $ 15.00. I don't know about the boat, but would be a good one for emergencies in the truck. |

| I just bought a coleman heater, the thing cost me $65 Can. It is one of those flameless thing so it's tent safe. The heating surface is about 8 inches across, there is no fan to this thing but it gets hot and a small cilinder will last 8 hours. It's great to warm up your hands, warm up reels and it actualy gets the inside on the boat warmer, that is if you have a full top with side curtins. [:p] |

| Good topic! We where talking about this subject just the other day. The boat we are planning to get has a full walk thru windshield with a stand up top with side curtains. A heater for the cold months is on our list as well as a ton of others. |

| Steve, I also use a Mr Heater on a 20 lb tank. It's great for the boat, but when I used it in my deer blind, I found that it was too loud for my liking. I don't think that the constant hissing sound is enough to spook the deer, but I just couldn't hear the deer coming. |

| Focus 4 is my favorite - not great for a space heater but takes up very little space in the boat and throws off a lot of heat in one direction. A small bottle of gas lasted us 2 solid days in October / November in Canada.
Stay clear of the catalytic (sp?) heaters. Once they get wet they don't fire up.
