Posts: 4266 | My table-mounted Sears router died in less than 2 years, and I haven't used it all that much. I'm looking for feedback from my Basement Brothers before I get another one. I don't want to spend more than $250, because as I said, I'm not making that many lures right now, but every time they adjust my pain pump I can last out in the garage a little longer each time. I have hundreds of blanks cut out, but they are useless without a router. So, give me some suggestions, pros and cons and whatever you can give me so I get a descent router this time. Thanks Brothers, Beaver

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | I had a good Craftsman at one time ( Sears) but I sold a lot of my power tools before I moved to TN. I would check and see what Home Depot or Lowes has Beav, That much money should buy a decent router for sure. Wish you the best Bud.

If the majority of you're use is the router mounted in a table and primarily using round-over bits. I'm only assuming this? If so, a porter cable 690 is all you need, at 1 3/4 hp it would handle all needs. What are you planning to do with it? I have about 6 porter cable routers of all sizes for different tasks, they are very good for the money.

Posts: 41 | I am not a lure maker, but I am just starting to mess around with woodworking as a new hobby. Recently I purchased the Bosch 1617. This router came with both a plunge and fixed base for under $200. Also, it has a few features that make it easier to work with when attached to a table. I really love the idea that I can change my bit depths from above the table (with the use of a hex key). - 2.25hp - variable speed - both the 1/4" and 1/2" collets are included One other note: It was tough to choose between this router and the Dewalt 618. When I saw them in person, I noticed that there was less plastic used on the Bosh. This and the idea of changing depths from above a table were the 2 major factors in choosing the bosch. good luck!
