What a relief! Finally, cooler temps this past week has brought the water temps down to more normal temps for early August. The heat of July was incredible and it's rare when we see surface temps approach the low 80's up here on Rowan Lake.

In a single week the surface water temps went from 81 degree and are now down to low 70's and that has triggered the bigger fish to start moving around this past week. It's also allowed our fisherman and women to start seeing a lot more quality fish and those fish started eating some baits as well.

Mitch Albers boated a 48 inch fatty on Friday night and Pat Stemper landed a beautiful 51.5 inch fish on Saturday evening. Both fish we caught right after dark. We've had a lot of family groups in camp recently and the kids are doing their share of catching fish too. 14 yr old Riley Vieth boated four muskies and in the last three years he and his dad have been here, Riley has caught three or more muskies each trip...way to go Riley! Most the kids in camp have been skipping eating their deserts (go figure...) after dinner to race down to the docks to catch smallies, walleyes and rock bass.

Syliva Spitzer is also back in camp for the second time this season and she already boated a 40, 46 and 47 inch fish as well. Every group has raised big fish. Most fish have been found on rocks and weeds but the bigger fish seem to be hanging off the deep outside weed edges in cooler waters. Stump Hawg's, Bull Dawg's, Double Cow Girl's and Shadzilla swim baits seem to be the top lures to move and catch fish.

The lake trout bite continues to be strong and many groups have been catching walleyes and bass with good success. Jigs and Gulp minnows have been the ticket for walleye in Miner's Bay and Basil Lake. Largemouth Bass have been lurking around the weed beds and both spinner baits and X-Raps are hooking them.

That's it for now...I'll let you know how things progress as we get into mid to late August when the muskie action should really start to heat up!

Until then....keep a tight line.

~ Don

Glad to hear you didn't melt to your boat seat , Don------it has been a ROUGH year, hasn't it? With things getting back to normal now---the good fishing can finally begin. Had a decent opener----might come back up in 2 weeks for a few days----then hopefully for a full week in the fall. Webster has been quiet----water temps too high---and few people fishing for 'em. My family saw a few more "floaters" than normal due to the high temps. Hope you, Lynn and the rest of the Nielsen's staff are well----- take care buddy-----Pat Elza

Don & Lynn,

On behalf of our fishing party, we had another great fishing trip!

Thank goodness the cooler weather rolled in before we got up to Rowan Lake. I think that made all the difference in getting on active fish. Our group boated seven muskies and we raised almost a 100 fish, but it was nice to take a few breaks and catch some lake trout, and target some walleyes and smallies.

As always, everyone made our stay comfortable and enjoyable....you guys do a great job....already dreaming about next years trip!

We'll be in touch...keep these fishing reports coming,

Mitch
