The ice is beginning to thaw - my wife is warming to the idea of a new fishing boat.
Well warming might be a bit too strong - she's stopped throwing things at me.

from what I've seen / read these 2 seem like pretty good for musky, walleye, smallies on med size lakes with an occasional trip to big water.

I'd like to run a 4 stroke.

Have any of you had a chance to ride in both? If so, what do you think?

Any feedback on either boat one way or the other would be really helpful.
I've been in the Skeeter in a showroom, but not in the Tuffy.

thanks,
Brian

The Tuffy to compare to the 1825 is the 1890 Esox Deep V. The X190 is a multi-specie low profile high performance hull.

MX 1825
Know someone that has one. Rides sweet and maneuverability is something else. With his Yamaha it makes friendly on gas usage.

The Tuffy 1890 is best comparted to Skeeter's WX 1850 or WX 1900, as they're both deep-v hulls. The 1825 is a lower profile v, similar to the X-190, but the 1825 is a smaller boat and possibly has a little deeper hull.

Note that Skeeter is coming out with a MX 2025 later this year, rated for 300 ponies. If/when they come out with a MX 1900, it should be comparable to the X-190.

I haven't ridden in either boat, but here are my thoughts on your question: the 1825 has a slightly deeper hull than the X-190. Neither boat is a deep-v, but the 1825 is closer to a deep-v and the x-190 is closer to a bass boat. The X-190 is a faster boat, in addition to being bigger.

Find owners of each boat and at least ask them:
1) how the boat handles big/rough water
2) about hole shot and top speed performace
3) how the boat "tracks" when you're trolling or following a countour while casting

do 8' rods really fit in the center? because i could not get an 8' rod in, only a 7'-10
did you do a modification of some sort?

I think the X-190 would be one of the most fun boats to fish muskies out of made. A big deck, 90" beam and low to the water. I have fished out of many boats and the lower to the water I can fish everything improves for fishing, "ie" netting, figure 8ing, working baits, releasing fish, etc.. The higher I am above the water the more difficult to net, figure 8, work baits, release fish, etc..

I have not been in an 1825 on the water just in a showroom. I would like a longer deck. Even though the side rod locker holds 12' rods, side rod lockers are still not nearly as nice as center rod lockers. The 1825 only holds 8' rods in the center locker.

For trolling a deeper sided boat with a bigger cockpit is a huge advantage and I think the 1825 would be nice for that.

One more thought on my above post. If a person casted only and never trolled on water under 6000 acres I think the x-190 would be the best musky boat ever made.

The cockpit on the X190 is not 'small' by any means. The Esox Deep V deck comes out in 2 minutes, opening the back of the boat up. Trolling out of an X190 is a pleasure, not a problem.

It's recommended that one add a 9.9 to the starboard side of the boat, the X190 was designed to take a kicker and usually is offered rigged with a Merc 9.9 pro Kicker standard.
