| Hey everyone my starting battery for my 150 optimax took a crap and I need a new one. So my question is do i need a marine cranking battery or will an auto battery work just as well? |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I run a 150 opti also. It takes ALOT of juie to get the big booger started...I definitely would pay the extra $20-30 to get a marine cranking battery.

I would stick with a marine battery of some sort as well. Depending on the electronics you are running (and how much of it you are running) I suggest getting a dual purpose battery that has starting capabilities and deep cycle capabilities. I've run starting batteries down due to running 2 gps/locators, a third locator and a radio on weekends where I am not using th ebig motor much at all.

| 1000 MCA minimum for the Optimax. Do not put an auto battery in it. Marine only. They are built more sturdy to handle the abuse. I'd put a group 27 dual purpose in, if you run any electronics from the cranking battery. Make sure it will physically fit. Lot's of boats come with group 24 battery trays.

Bigger is better if you have the space- even upgrade the battery box to group 29 if you have the room and it fits your budget. I have never seen a complaint about having to much battery power. Especially if you are running a lot of electronic's or using one battery for starting, electronics & trolling motor.

SCS225 is a deep cycle battery. MCA is 820. Not saying it won't work, but not the best choice IMO. |

| I squeezed a 31 Series Deep Cycle in for my starting battery, I have 200 Opti and 3 sonars and livewell pumps never an issue here. I use Optima, but 31 series is the way to go.
