Last month we spent a few days on Lake St. Clair trolling for Muskies. I am not very knowlegable on trolling to begin with. With my limited trolling experience, we set up a plan to troll six rods. Four of them were on off-shore planer boards and one was a down rod and one in the prop wash. 2.5 days of fishing and we hooked 26 muskies and landed only 13. My thoughts on the lost fish were directly related to using the in-line planer boards. With the ultra clear water of LSC we let out more line than usual to keep the baits out from the boat to keep the fish from spooking from the boat. We got bit on these far out boards, but with the combined fight of the fish along with the water resistance of the in-line boards and all of this going on at 4 mph we were barely able to land 50% of Muskies hooked. Also, with the weeds we were absolutely worn out from working the in-line boards. Only two of us in the boat that knew how to work the rods. I have purchased a Mast and planer board (otter boat) set up for LSC next year so we will see if our catch to hook up ratio improves. The Mast trolling setup would have to be easier!!!!! LOL!!! I am telling you for a fact that two days in a row from daylight to dark using in-line boards will work you to death on LSC. I am anxious to run the Mast set up next year on LSC.
