Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I am looking to get a new set of sucker rods. I need 4 long rods in the 10 to 12ft range and a couple shorter ones. Can I get a few reviews and ideas as to what rods are the best for the money and why? I want long rods so my spread is as wide as I can get it. The weight of the rod is also a factor. I tried some 11ft classic cat rods but they were too stiff all the way to the tip and heavy. Thinking something light with good backbone and a three guide softer tip so I can watch the suckers every action. I am not a high end heavy duty monster hook magnum sucker guy. More on the smaller sucker and lighter equipment side. I am open to all possibilities and options. Please give me your opinion and what you like to use for early fall and spring sucker rods. Thanks for sharing some of your set ups. I know there is a lot of rods on the market now. Getting to see and test them all is not an option. Listening to the advice of many is my best option. Long, light and fast action is my preference. I got the long, heavy sticks already. What is the rod to get?????

Location: Contrarian Island | hi mike, you are probably going to have to look at saltwater rods.... some options: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-10-Saltwater-Fishing-Surf-Casting-Rod-6... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ugly-Stik-Big-Game-11-Surf-Fishing-Spinning... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Okuma-Cedros-Saltwater-Surf-Spinning-Rod-10... one thought tho w the longer saltwater rods is how far up the reel seat will be, if you put the rod in the rod holder at the reel and the butt is super long are you really gaining any length from the boat vs a rod like a 9' foot musky inn rod..? one of the reasons I like the Musky Inn rods is the same thing you are looking for..gets the sucker on the backside of the boat out and away from the boat... ie. big spread....

Posts: 1270 | Does any company makea one piece 10' or 11' rod? I'm not aware of any that would fit your description. Probably the main reason is that the cost to ship a rod that long would be EXTREME, probably more than the rod itself.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | have you thought about using a trolling mast to get them spread out??

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Sled, yes in years past I used my mast, planner boards and slip bobbers. Now I use two out rods, another one just behind the boat and a slip bobber rod about 30ft behind the boat. That's my 4 rod set up. Works great because the only one I have to reel in to clear weeds is the back one with the bobber. The floating weeds are a pain in the butt down here on pewaukee lake so boards and mast options will not work, maybe lakes with less weeds it can be a good option. I do use a two rods off the front, two off the back and two slip bobber set when we are not casting. It almost feels like cheating its so effective. But most of my November time is in a tree. This year might be different. I am having a 3 or 4 disc fusion done in my neck the 25th of July. Might be chillin in the boat more this fall.

Posts: 458 | Musky Innovations used to make 10' rods (I have 2 of them) but they could not ship them. I would look at your saltwater choices and also make sure you don't fish alone.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Best be IMO is to find a 9'+ rod that is telescopic. Anything over 9' cost an extra $60 with FedEx and UPS. Yikes!!!
