Hey Rob Meyers or any other St Croix Gurus:

Other than the price, what are some of the major differences between the St Croix Premier Jerkbait Rod and the Avid Jerkbait Rod?

First, according to the online catalogue and specs, it seems that the Premier is actually lighter that the Avid. How come (other than the 2" difference in length)?

Second, how much "more" rod am I buying if I go with the Avid over the Premier?

Thanks for the response,

mclarkin777

Sounds like you are looking at the PM60HF and the AM62HF rods.
The main differences are...
The Avid Series has a higher quality graphite which is initially lighter in physical weight and a lot more sensitive.
We oversized the handle so it is easier to hold on to and grip all day. Also we have Fuji SIC guides on the Avid Rod where the Premier has Hailoy guides with an SIC tip top.
The other main difference is the Premier Rod has a 2 year warranty and the Avid has a limited lifetime warranty.
The 2".... to my understanding was to have something a little different, which was started with the Legend Series.

All my rods are St. Croix, I have a bunch of Premiers and two Avids (I have a 6'9" Avid and a 7' Avid) I love the Avids and so do my clients.
I can't wait to get my hands on an 8' Avid, did you hear me Rob[:p]

Get on the drawing board and get the 8' Avid on the market[]

Ralph,
I hear ya and you are not alone in your desires. It's been mentioned before, not sure if it's in the works or not, but you never know...
Definitely, something to check into and I'll keep updates on that![;)]

Thanks Rob for the response!
But, in your opinion, is the Avid worth the extra $80?
-especially on a jerkbait rod?

I like the features and the lifetime warranty on the Avid Rods. In my opinion, the value is worth it.

mclarkin777,

My 6'9" Avid is by far my favorite jerk bait rod, it has the backbone to set hooks and has a great feel. I have both the 6'9" Avid and the 6'9" Premier so I can compare them in the boat, and there is no comparison. Get yourself the Avid and I guarantee, you will not be disappointed.
