Taking a break from the hot sun to post a report from Minaki. Here goes....
Sunday July 8.... Arrived here at Bayview Lodge at about 8 pm. Fished 1 hour in the evening with no action.
Monday July 9 (Yesterday)... First full day in camp. Fished from 7 am until about 10:30 pm when the mosquitos got too nasty.
Caught 3 muskies....
43 inch... black ghostail with double nickel no. 9 blades at 730 am
39 inch... Havana Jackpot at 930 am
40 inch... Lee`s water chopper at 855 pm (on a figure 8... that was cool)
had 11 other follows yesterday. The most active fish were either before 10 am or after 8 pm, as the day was sunny and flat calm.
Tues. July 10... (today)
2 lethargic follows earlier this morning. Very sunny and calm. Taking about an 8 hour break before going out for some night fishing.
Water temps between 71 and 76 depending on time of day / location etc.

Beautiful sunrise shot - smoke on the water! What kind of structure were they on?

As far as location...
The 43 incher was caught on an island reef (marked by a navigation buoy). This was mostly rock, with very limited vegetation
The 39 and 40 inchers were in THICK sloppy weeds in the bay of an island. We saw 12 of the 14 total fish in heavy vegetation (but it was a bright sunny day with no wind or clouds, so that's what we mainly had to do). I have no doubt that many of the fish have already set up on the main lake rocks, but yesterday's conditions weren't to favorable for fishing that stuff unless I wanted to break out the soft plastics (Did in fact have one up on a sinking curly sue on a purely rock main lake reef).
Water is low and many weeds are thus breaking the surface. I believe several fish are burying deep in the weeds under the high skies, and the Pearson Grinders may have to be broken out. But I think we might just wait till evening and hit the rocks under low light.

| Interesting. I read the muskies on another Ontario lake had been on rocks close to deep water, but had moved into shallow water with weeds this last week.
Looks like they are starting to hit topwater.......thanks for the report and pictures.

Location: Madison, WI | Tuesday totals: 6 total follows. No hookups. All very lethargic looking fish. I think the fish were quite turned off today, at least during the hours we fished.
Fished from 6 am to 11 am, and then again from 730pm until 1030 pm (mosquitos were absolutely brutal with warm night and no wind whatsoever)
Did see a few of our followers tonight on mid lake rock reefs, so we'll be attempting to do more mid lake stuff tomorrow I believe. May have to bust out the crankbaits and do some trolling deeper depending on wind and sky conditions.
Overall a really slow day today. Hot, sunny, and very calm. No more pics tonight, sorry guys....

First of all, Go Badgers! Last year at Bayview, a bear went strolling through, that is until Brian got his boomstick and got it out of there...
Has anyone tried to go right out of Bayview instead of Left? There isn't much right to go, but is there anything back there?
We are checking in on Saturday and looking forward to a great time!

Location: Yahara River Chain | The yr I went in Sept we had a bear bust up the porch of 4 guys guys from Neb and those guys never woke up. Then that bear trashed another cabin. I was looking out the window one night and heard a shot rang out. Then followed by the word "sh1t". Brian missed. Then Trapper ran him off as well. Then he came ionto camp in the middle of the afternoon and Trapper put him up a tree. Then Brian took care of the young bear. Now I call the place "Bearview" |
