What are your thoughts on these for a muskie boat? Mainly smaller water like Tonka, Independence, metro lakes.. But possibly a Mille Lacs trip or two.

If you never plan on having more than two people in the boat at a time, go for it if the price is right... but anymore than two, and it's too uncomfortable to maneuver and fish comfortably..... sometimes I feel crammed in my 20'5 Ranger with three people. As far as big water goes, my 205vs handles it like a champ, but I can't testify to the smaller ones. But hey, if you're still weary, just remember.... it's a Ranger boat....... what else could you want? LOL

I have been running a 175vs since last June and I love it, but I only fish small flowages and lakes in NorthEastern Wisconsin and the UP. I was running a 14ft smoker so take this for what it is worth, I have fished 3 out of my boat as well as 3 in 2 other 17' deep v's and I think it fishes as well as any 17' will.

I had a chance to see one last weekend. It's ironic since a good friend of mine recently restored a 681C... I fished out of the 681 in June and thought it was a wonderful "old" musky boat. Can't believe how much the 175 seems like an excellent reincarnation of the 681 series.

Let's see... low to the water for easy figure 8's, storage for GREAT BIG musky rods, a 50 inch live well, a fantastic hull... seems like a great musky boat to me.

Ok, If I fished really big water It wouldn't be my first choice.

However, the lakes I fish ( 2800 acres or less) it wouldn't be an issue. Especially if the economy ever get's going and gas prices rise to over 4 dollars a gallon.

My only issue? Ranger needs to make a wheel version of this boat with about a 130hp max... They would sell a million of them... I'd be the first one to order that boat!

I ifsh a 185vs. Primarily on the Madison chain. It handles rough stuff better than any aluminum I have been in. Should be fine on smaller lakes and ok on big water as long as the wind isn't too bad. If you are interested mine could be for sale. p

Would not suggest a 175 unless you are strictly sticking to small water, there also will be no good places to put your musky gear...especially the net...

If you are going to go bass boat on skis start looking at the 185 or bigger, even those will have a fair share of drawbacks though
