Hey guys,

After a rather long break away from muskie, and fishing in general, I am getting back into the swing of things. I picked up a new to me boat last night (93 Lund Pro V 1775 Dlx) which I'm super excited about, but I did buy it with a known issue. That's what helped keep the price down.

but now I have to fix it. I thought I knew where I was going to start with it, but the guys description makes me think I should ask folks more experienced.

So this has a Mercury 115, and the trim has stopped working. The previous owner described when it first started acting up as it seemed the trim was running slowly, and then it quit working. He did say that very occasionally it might work for a sec, but then stop again. It also doesn't seem to work from any of the switches, in the bow, throttle, or on the transom. There isn't any clicking that I can hear, but am going to check again here shortly.

So I was initially thinking the solenoids, but from what I have read there are two, and it doesn't make sense to me that they would both go out at the same time. Then I thought maybe the motor, but wouldn't I still hear the solenoids clicking?

So yeah, I need some direction. Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Edit: I attached a pic of the motor because it seems to me like there might have been 2 115's available that year, the other with a smoother cover. I could be mistaken, but there it is Justin case.

So brief update. I CAN hear clicking on both the up and down solenoids. Also it "worked" very briefly. It almost sounded like it was grinding a little when going up and down, then quit working again. This is almost definitely the trim motor, eh?

When it went out on my Merc it was the brushes. I took the trim motor to a local electronic guy that didn't know anything about trim on outboards but knew motors. Changed em out pretty cheap

That's a great idea. I actually have a place that oes that kind of stuff too. Thanks!

So does anybody know if the pump part of these go out? I'd hate to replace the motor piece to just have the pump in the base of the assembly be the actual issue....

Some years back I had an issue with a plastic safety switch under the motor.. Was a pain to change out but it took care of the problem...

Well I got into the trim motor, and whoa nelly, are those brushes worn!! There is probably only 2mm left before it gets to the hole the wire is mounted to. On the down side, the com is pretty worn, too. I wonder if these electric motor places can replace/refurb the com as well?

Well anyway, I'll def be headed there on Monday instead of just ordering a new trim motor. Cheers to you propster!
