I have a 99 merc. 50 two stroke. I had a retired merc. machanic tell me he thought it could be changed to be a 60hp. by changing the reeds and re adjusting the carb. does anyone here know if it is this simple?

Reeds and carb settings can be changed, but I'm not sure it will gain you 10 hp. Make sure if you do, that the oil pump gets adjusted accordingly. You would probably want to do a couple spark plug run/readings then too. Messing with snowmobiles a little, has showed me, it is not that easy to gain 10 HP. More air, plus more fuel will do it, just gotta watch everything else untill you get it right.

Thanks for the response. However what I really want to know is are there any other physical differences in the stock 60hp.

I'm not sure if they have the same block and head. If so, it would be very possible to do.
