buddy gave me a shumway tail, black boo with "martian green' blades. looks awesome in the water, but here's my question: who's had luck with that blade color, and is it considered better in clear or dark water? thanks,
steve

That sounds like a "Chippewa Flowage Special." Black with lime green blade has been the go-to color out there for a long time. The Flowage is typically known as a stained water lake. I would call it fairly lightly stained though, not like chocolate milk or even dark coffee.

I've used the same color on Lake Wissota which is definately darker water coffee to root beer color depending on the time of year. I'm sure it would work in clear water though too.

I'd say that it wouldn't matter what lake or water clarity you were throwing that.. It would work anywhere.

Success on the martian has slowed some on Eagle the last few years, but it was a staple 5-6 years ago before every boat was throwing them. There's probably no way to tell, but if it is one of Bruce's older baits it should hold up very well. The newer ones from the last several years tend to fall apart after a few days of use, though.

My bad for talking about something I didn't look up. Just looked at it now. I bet those blades look pretty neat in the water.

Have done very well on them on Spanky Double 10's on Eagle, Madison Chain and Lake St Clair. From super clear water to green bloom...
Good Luck,

Like many have said, it's a great color on Eagle. It works good on Vermillion to. I like it in the regular Flasher size best. One of the biggest fish I have ever seem on Eagle was on that bait.

I second this conclusion they work very well, but for some reason dont hold up to well - a day of stripping weeds destroys the skirt even being careful, not to mention fish rip it off easily. I still buy them

I know the lure and blades you are talking about. Three or four years ago I spoke with a guy who fished the same lake I did in Southern WI. He swore by the Shumway flasher with martian green blades and black maribou. I called everywhere trying to find some. Ended up calling Pastikas in Hayward (rest in peace old friend) and they had two of them. I was told Shumway was from the area and they could round up some more if I could wait a week for them. It was a week later and I had the package from Pastikas with six brand new flashers! I have caught most of my muskies on this lake with them. I still use the one flasher, my two boys each have one, gave one to a friend who was new to musky fishing and I have a couple spares waiting in the wings. The lake I fish is fairly clear.

Rollie and Helen's sells the giant flasher with black marabou and martian green blades.

Here it is...

Click on the photos / colors tab and you can see a picture of it.

If you are looking for just the blades / components, and make your own bucktails, I don't know where you would get those.

I've used these on Eagle with some nice success. Tried duplicating returning to Pa., and have had some success as well. Definitely worth picking a couple up if possible. I think you might be able to get some from Spanky Baits...

here are a few different colors with the same color application for MuskyShop.com

My buddy made one with the Translucent Orange blades and I think it is one of the more badass DC10s I have seen yet.

Just powder painted couple blades using candy green powder with green glitter

I don't have any lures with "Martian Green" blades and  thus I'd like to ask if my version is close enough to original ?

I would say it's darn close, check out the website I posted a few above yours and you can make your own decision on that as well. I think they look closer to the teal color, but that's just My opinion

It seems more like light green. I think I need to make them darker. Next time I'll try to add green powder on black chrome base. Should work, but.... ???

I just this week received a care package from John Dadson with a couple of custom "martians" for my Eagle trip this year.  They are SWEET.
