The lake was in various stages of T/O during last years LR outing at VDL. The nice thing about lakes built like Vermi is that T/O doesn't happen all at once and doesn't have to affect number of fish caught. In fact, my mantra last year was "turnover is a myth." After playing with thermometer for several years I've noticed turnover is even less scientific than predicting the weather in this state. The only constant is inconsistancy. Some lakes stratify some years and don't other years. Sometimes lakes turnover sometimes they just slowly mix as the seasons progress. There are just too many variables to predict accurately. I'm with gman...september should be safe...but October has always produced more "superfish" encounters for me. I'd go early or late in Oct. and avoid the middle of the month. Shoot me a email when you go and I'll tell what I know...I'll be up there all of Oct. and Nov. P.S. Congrats on the tourney! Edited by Ben Olsen 6/12/2012 2:35 PM

Posts: 286 Location: Eagan, MN | I'm w/ GMan and Ben on this one. Never have had an occassion to blame poor fishing up there on turnover and I've been there multiple times over the last 10 or so years in every fall month. Go and don't worry about turnover. Worry more about how you are going to officially verify the state record you may catch - AND release her alive and unharmed. Congrats, too. You are on a roll this year w/ 4' footers! BrianF

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Hooker,.... Think about it for a minute.... Big V has sooooo, many areas that are like small lakes,... Some areas of the lake will turn over 2 weeks before other areas do . Some areas don't Turn. . The BIG Fish time is the last week of Oct.to ice up,... and only serious Muskie hunters are out on the water then,..... Are your 2 Pounders Ready to go??? One thing is for sure, once Vermilion is iced up you still have about 2 weeks in the Cities to fish. Jerome Edited by Top H2O 6/13/2012 12:16 AM
