| I'm still looking! I'd really appreciate your help.
What do you guys think of Fenwick's HMG's?
They seem to be on clearance all over the place with the HMG Avids now on the market.
Thanks,

| For under $100 you should check out some of the Auroras on e-bay.
The 7'6" is a good jerkbait rod.

| Honestly....save up til you have around $120+, then get a rod that will last you a few years.

| falcon for 100 is a great rod. |
|
| |
|
| For 120 you can get a st croix or an all star. For around 100 you can get the falcon and for a little less than that a quarrow. |
|
| |
|
| My humble biased opinion would be the PM69HF for $120.00 not too much over the price range you're looking for.

| I have used a Fenwick HMG for years. Great bucktail rod, but I've had problems with the reel seat. Specifically, the threads strip out when you tighten down, and, the reel can actually pop out on a really hard hookset. (The popping reel thing happened to me when I once set the hook on a submerged stump.) So I sent the rod back, got a new one for free, same damn problem. And the problem started on the very first day of the Cass Outing! No more Fenwicks for me.[:((]
I recently picked up a Cortland 6'6" "All Purpose" for Suicks and other medium sized jerks. Light, well-balanced, and it has a cool holograph musky just above the handle. So far I love it. Only $75 and it comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. One of the best deals out there.
If I had more money I might have bought the Falcon. I think All Stars are also an excellent choice for just a little more cash.

| When it comes to my rod a reel choices I generally don't care if they are expensive and a little over the top. I really like the Falcon I own. These are very nice rods. I also have a St. Croix that is a great rod. Take your pick. |

| I just got a Fenwick HMG jerkbait rod and I like it! I don't think you could go wrong with one of these for the money. |

| Falcon or save up and get a St Croix Premier. 6'9" for the Premierhas been very good to me. |
|

|
| Check the Bargain Rack @ St. Croix's store. I bought a PM69HF demo for $90 last September. Got it & a PM76MHF out the door for just over 2 bills. |

| I have to agree with Rob Meyers, great rod. Too bad I haven't found it here yet (here = Belgium) |
|

|
| I don't think you can beat Bass Pro's Pete Maina series from a cost/quality standpoint. I currently use the 8' but will be migrating to the 8'6" when it comes out. |

| Thanks again folks! Your opinions are going to help me find the perfect JB rod. Interesting that no one has suggested that I plunk down the extra cash and get a GLoomis Rod, though several suggestions for the St Croix's. I've checked out the Loomis rods and for the money their asking, I'm not at all impressed! Weighty and exxxxxpensive!

| I've got 2 lamiglass rods in addition to my PM69H. The 6'9" is for the jerk baits and heavy cranks. Everything else is the lamiglass rods..right now. |

| Thorne Brothers makes an S-Series, similar quality to St Criox Premiers, but they have a Jerk Bait specific model, it's 6' 2" and will never break. If you're concerned about that being too short they make an all-purpose 6'6" rod, but the guys at the store swear by the jerkbait model which is available only in the 6' 2" length.
I'm getting mine made to order for $129, and they'll even put your name on it!
Thorne Bros also has the Diamondback series, which is ultra-high performance, but you give up the durability due to the light weight.
Warning: if you're not too tall, and if you fish from a boat that isn't high on the water, a longer rod will be hard to jerk properly with the rod tip down toward the water. I found out this fall that it's hard to jerk a 7ft Fenwick from an Alumacraft Lunker 16ft unless you stand up on the bow (and that can be a tricky proposition).
