Subject: Revo S Levelwind Problem

The levelwind of my Revo S bass reel isn't working properly. It works for awhile, but then the line balls up on one side. The screw feels loose, so I tighten it, and that seems to temporarily fix it, but then it comes loose again.

1) What causes it?
2) How do I fix it?

How tight are you tightening it? It's odd that it's loosening up that easy unless you aren't tightening it up enough. DOn't wrench on it but give it a good snug turn.

I snugged it, but after half an hour or so of casting it gets loose again and the line stacks up on one side of the spool (99% of the time on the handle side). I cleaned everything with water and a q-tip and my dad had the pin that goes in the grooves of the worm out. Neither of us saw any problems with the pin or the groove itself.

The cap coming loose is what is allowing the pawl itself to back out of the worm gear. If the worm and the pawl are in good shape, just put some loctite on the threads so the cap stays snug, which pushes the pawl into the gear.

+1 to what Propster said. Just make sure to use a SMALL amount of removable lock tite and to only let it get on the threads and not on the pawl in any way.

My guess is the pawl is busted. I had this happen to a bunch of my old abu's.

How do I determine if the worm gear, pawl, or anything else is alright or damaged? Nothing looked like it was broken, but I'd like to be sure before I put any loctite on the cap.

Take a side picture of the pawl and post it here. Are you missing the shim under the pawl?

If the cap is loosening up that's not a fault of the worm gear or the pawl so those shouldn't be an issue. If it's sticking and the cap is still tight then that would be but it sounds more like you cap is just loosening up.

Working on getting a picture. I can't get a picture that isn't blurry. I'm not missing the shim under the pawl. I assume that's just the thin metal circle under the cap. I hadn't had the reel apart before the issue started, either.

I'll have to do that. About how much do you think that will cost, and how long does it generally take to get everything?

I wouldnt use loctite but a dab of finger nail polish. It will hold the nut on good enough to keep the cap from backing off.

If you don't have to get the L/W screw, then under $10.00 for the pawl, washer, and the cap. The L/W screw could be another $10.00 plus. ABU is in Spirit Lake IA so under a week to get parts from ABU.
