Posts: 134 | So, I after a long time in college I am finally ready to start the process of boat shopping. The boat that I am looking at buying is the Lund 1810 Predator. I will be living in Eau Claire, WI. My questions are: 1) What is the best way to get the lowest price? 2) Should I approach this like a new car purchase and offer several thousand off the list price? 3) Is there a dealer in my area that you would recommend? 4) Anyone know of a used 1810 predator for sale? 5) Lastly, should I go with the 90 or 115HP? Thanks for your help. Matt

Posts: 132 | I can really only answer a couple for you... 1) Shop, shop, shop. Go to different dealers. 5) Get the 115. Shouldn't be too much different in price on the Mercs since they're the same block on both the Opti and 4 Stroke.

Posts: 201 | I have a 2011 1810 Predator with a 115 4 stroke I bought from M&J in Mosinee. I shopped around a little but gave them the last shot since they were so close to where I live. Very happy with the boat for the most part. Get a 24v Minn Kota with I pilot and get the dealer to throw in a few Sport Trak Brackets. If you have anymore questions let me know since I have the boat you are lokoing at getting. Edit: Of course everyhitn is for sale for the right price ![]() Edited by smbrickner 5/10/2012 9:45 AM

I dont think you will find a huge price difference shopping apples for apples. Dealer recommendations go a long way...some dealers are your best friend until the paperwork is signed...find the right dealer and you will be happy.

Posts: 576 Location: Germantown, WI | I bought same boat in 2010 with a 90hp 4-stroke. Love it! But probably should have went 115. I live in Milwaukee but bought from dealer in Abrams, wi about 2.5 hours away because boat quote was 3500 less.

Matt 1) Be patient (most people are not) and shop around, if you're real patient the best deals are going to be this October/November. You can obviously get your best deals privately if you know what you're looking for, there's also more risk that you'll find something misrepresented. A reputable dealer is typically worth the extra money for most. 2) I really hate it when people low ball me, and that's starting out on the wrong foot in my option. If you do your research you will know what price you should be paying and therefore there will be no reason to negotiate like that, knowledge is the key. My rule of thumb is, why buy it unless it's a good deal...And I'm not afraid to say something like that. A pretty slick way to reduce the cost (at least if you buy it privately here in Illinois) is to buy the hull separately from the motor-s and accessories to save on taxes. The state only taxes the boat, if the motor is attached you pay tax on it too. If you go that route be sure to document everything properly (certified check and receipt for the hull). 4-5) ? 6) I recommend the maximum rated horsepower for the boat. Good luck!

Posts: 572 | Like others, I would go with the 115. Shopping on the internet may offer some good deals. Some may have delivery options available. At least, I like to shop via internet, even though I may end up buying locally. A fairly large Lund dealer close to where I have my travel trailer stored is White's Marine Center. You may want to give them a call and see what they might be able to work out for you. http://www.whitesmarinecenter.com/ Good luck on your search.

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Always go with the max power on the engine, it's much better performance and much better resale value. Also, in my experiences you are much better off going with a private seller. Dealer prices very rarely, if ever, match what a private seller asks. I would never buy from a dealer unless it was new. To expand your search make sure you are using all the tools at your disposal...Craigslist national search, outdoors first ads, walleye central, a simple google search " lund 1810 predator for sale" , etc..... Some excellent points Brian but some people are kinda nervous about buying something this large privately, while you and I have maybe purchased several boats and know what to look for... this appears to be his first boat. There's certainly nothing wrong with a good used boat from a reputable dealer, and the convenience and extra reassurance that someone with a good knowledge of boats has went through it is probably worth it the first time around anyway. With that said, if you do buy private you should always structure the sale pending on an inspection by a mechanic.

Posts: 403 Location: WI | Shop around!!!! I see ALOT of ppl in the Chippewa Valley walk into the local dealer & pay their list price. I drove 85 miles & saved almost $3000 on my new boat 4 yrs ago. And as already stated, always go max HP.

Posts: 433 Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Just remember, as soon as you buy the boat someone will tell you how bad you got screwed. It doesn't matter what you paid, where you bought it, or how the stars are aligned they know of a better deal for the same or a better boat. If you got the boat for free it wouldn't matter, because they know a guy that would have paid you to take the same rig. ![]()

Posts: 114 | try using a craigslist aggregator to find used boats (or any thing else) from all over the country. I used it for buying and selling boats. For you search use: https://www.lund 1800 predator site:craigslist.org this will give you an idea of what they go for and where you can find them. If youre patient it can be a great way to get a deal

Ran into a local guy at the gas station with a new Lund/Verado. We chatted for a bit and I learned it was a 3 yr old leftover new boat from a dealer up in International Falls. He shopped around on the net and found this great deal. Dealer dove down with the boat and met him in Duluth.

Posts: 3913 | As above, buy in the fall/early winter and have a careful inspection done by a reputable dealership (they'll charge you but not much) on the whole boat before you make a deal. I traded a Ford Explorer for a Astro bass boat one interesting night only to later find that the transom was rotted so bad the boat wasn't safe. I dumped the boat off on some kid and his dad who wanted to work on a project all winter. I told them everything about the problem and sold them a motor and a trailer. The POS boat was free.
