I have an older Kenwood marine radio in my 619 that is satellite radio ready but needs a tuner...I've done my research and found a few tuners that will plug into the unit....The problem looks like is that the antenna used in these tuners is actually meant for cars and uses a magnet in the antenna to stick to the top of vehicles ( obviously that won't have the same effect on a glass boat). Anyone have any suggestions to get around this? What do you use in your boat for an antenna? Not sure where or how I could stick the antenna and would prefer to avoid drilling any holes if possible....

Smart phone with Pandora app plugged into the boat radio = satellite radio for free.

Yeah the water thing is just a slight problem ha, also without phone reception you will be limited as to when you can use it, whereas the sirius tuners work everywhere.

Looks like I'll have to get the ol drill out after all and make some holes...

You don't need a ground plane(car roof) for satellite reception.

Put some velcro on the antenna, and a spot on the boat with a clear view to the sky, and you should be good to go.

the antenna i put in the link above is needed for the sirius...it flush mounts to the glass...mine is right above the area above my throttle on the top of the gunnel ... it flush mounts nicely...

That's the way I would go, but he mentioned he didn't want to drill any holes. So, velcro would work.

Do GPS pucks and satellite radio receivers interfere with each other?

Rain? My smartphone fits in my boat's glovebox just fine, right next to the 12v power supply so the battery doesn't run down. The aux wire to the radio is beyond simple to run behind the dash.

And at $150+ per year for Sirius, I'll listen to the loons one week a year in Canada when I'm out of range.

cost / benefit...you choose to do the smart phone thingy w pandora...which will eat your battery life... and may cause you more headaches w charging your phone having to plug it in, etc etc etc...for me i'm at $8 month for sirius and the cost/benefit to me is I'd rather just jump in my boat, flip a switch on my console and vuala! Haaair Nation
plus i can play CD's when i'm bored of that stuff....and it has am/fm which at times is handy too...you think 100 bucks is too much for it ...i personally think it's a good deal for the couple hundred hours I sit on the water and not have to mess w my "smart phone"
to each their own.....

Brian, if you figure out a temporary mount I will help you mount it permanently at some point this summer.
