Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Just got a great email from my friend Jeff. With his permission I am posing the below picture of his son John with a real nice 65" Sturgeon (est 80#). He was using a 9' XXH for this fish and 2 53" he got earlier. Not suggesting a 9' rod for all kids but Jeff said John did well with the rod and he is just under 60" tall. Update: I am working on a kids musky rod right now. Really hope to get this done by fall. Trying to keep the price under $80 but I think I can do it and keep the quality components on it like my current rods. Specs: - 6' - M blank and rated up to 4-5oz lures - 4" Foregrip - 11" handles with 1" diameter cork - Fuji reel seats - 7 guides and a tip top (all metal so it can take a beating) Thanks again to Jeff for sharing the picture with me. Looks like a blast! James Attachments ---------------- john and sturgeon.jpg (88KB - 162 downloads)

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Nice fish. I caught a 65" on the Detroit River back in March while walleye fishing. Took almost & hour to get her in on 8 Lb Power Pro & a Med power St. Croix spinning rod. I used my TI XH rod last year for sturgeon in the St. Clair River but found it to be too stiff for sturgeon & lost several fish. This year I'll be using the TI MH for sturgeon.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Zib, I think Jeff uses only the TI XXH rods for sturgeon where he goes in Northern Minnesota. He got an est 105# last year as well as a snagged log he said was about 200#. Please let me know how the MH rod works for your sturgeon fishing. I like to collect customer feedback and the fish they use it for. Any positive or negative comments you can send to me are also appreciated. Thanks James

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Just got the below picture of an alligator gar. I think it was either the kid on the far left or the middle one who got this monster. They were also using a TI XXH 9' rod. This looks fun until you get one in the boat The TI XXH rods can handle a LOT of fish! Posts: 304 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | James, I can attest to Jeff reeling in the 200# log. I witnessed it from a nearby boat. However the largest Sturgeon they boated this year was ONLY in the 90# range. I believe it was the largest he and his partner have landed yet. Jeff and John were the first ones out of the cabins and the last ones in every day on the outing Congrats Jeff and John on the huge sturgeon. Fish hard and have a great time while doing it. I definately had a good time this year. My other boat partners and my son Jon got the big ones. I just had a great time being a dad and a friend and watching the activity and snapping pictures and filming with a small camera. My one boat partner definately is the Ultimate Chef. We probably also had the best smelling boat at about lunch time each day. Two years ago I had a few large ones in the boat. The largest sported a 36" girth. I did have the pleasure of reeling that one in.

really upset with these ''fisherman'' that have 0 respect for gator gar. for some reason that i can explain i begin to think they kill them, for pure pleasure. james that being said,1 thing is sure no musky is gonna break these rods. sorry for being out of the subject,it was stronger than me

Posts: 209 | Jeff - 4/30/2012 9:03 PM The largest sported a 36" girth. I could be wrong, but I think you're only supposed to wrap the tape around the fish once Kidding, of course. I saw a 76x28 once and I've been drooling over the thought of it since. I can't imagine a 36 inch girth...
