Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Muskies do eat Lake trout. Johnny Dadson had me build this 21 inch Deepthreat for him a few years back. This is the blank before running the wire through and top coating the bait. We used a photo of an actual lake trout and made a stencil of the spots. It took a long time but now I can paint lake trout in any size Deep threat. The Olive body is painted first and the spots are Createx Chameleon gold. After the spots are on we use transparent dark olive to finish shading the bait after its all finished and assembled. This gives it depth and life. Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Mustad 3551 in a 10/0 with 7 H Triple rings. Its a big bait for sure but not the biggest one out there. There are some Canadians that make or have made some up to 31 inches. I have several clients who have actually caught some good fish on the 21 inch model. I am always painting that lure in Big forage patterns like salmon and trout, Walleye and Pike, Carp, but the best producing has been in Whitefish. Big Great Lakes Muskies love Whitefish. Here is a finished 21 in Whitefish .Mike Attachments ---------------- whitefish21.JPG (8KB - 140 downloads) whitefish 2.JPG (18KB - 131 downloads)

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | The diving lip is 3/8th Polycarbonate. 7 inches long and 5.25 wide at the widest part of the lip. The lure is over 25 inches long with the lip. The wood is exactly 21 inches from tail to nose. It has 4 lead pockets in the belly to stabilize it. They run at 3 to 5 mph and will diver over 30 feet. The guys who run them use Halibut rods spooled with 150 pound braid line and 135 lb(49 strand) stainless shark braid leaders. Mike

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Guest - 4/9/2012 11:11 PM how wide is that beast??? The body is cut from custom planed Cedar boards that are 1.675 thick. They look like a fat 2 by 6 . After sanding the body is about an inch and a half then they get 6 coats of ETEX which brings them back to about 1.675. I get all of my wood from a sawyer that cuts local here in west Michigan. I buy huge sections of old telephone poles and he saws them up for me. The wood is very old and very hard. W e shave them down until we get to good wood then make planks at various thicknesses. I only by sections that have very thin growth rings(tight grain). This is important as it really helps in machining . The tighter the grain the smoother it machines and the harder the wood. Mike

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Its .078 302 stainless wire. Its called half hard meaning its a medium temper. I buy it 75 pounds at a time in a coil. I use it on all the big baits from the 7.5 inch Magnum shad all the way to this 21 inch Deep threat. It is real strong wire. Mike

Im not sure but to date I know of a 42 and 44 that were caught on one in King Salmon color and a 54 and 55 on a walleye colored one. The 42 and 44 were caught the same day. Mike
