Location: MN | Does anyone have feedback or info on Recon boats? Curious if anyone owns or has fished out of any of their boats. They look like a nice layout for musky fishing and get the benefits of fiberglass. I remember seeing a team at the 2010 PMTT Championship running one of these rigs. Doing some research, any feedback appreciated. Edited by Mak51 3/19/2011 3:30 PM

Posts: 512 Location: Appleton | Contact Tom Rozek he can get you the info you need. He goes by Top Predator on this board. I've fished out of his rig and it works great for two guys fishing musky. Hope this helps. You might be able to get in touch with him via River Hunter Guide service website.

Posts: 157 Location: Carney, Mi (in da UP eh!) | Hi Mak51, Bob Dekker and myself had used 3 different model RECON boats during the 2010 WMT series. All 3 models were super boats to Musky fish from. Great ride in rough water, lots of deck room for fishing, and unbelievable amount of strorage compartments. If I were in the market for a boat I would take a serious look at them. The Ski Hut in Crivitz Wisconsin handles the RECON line of boats and they set things up for us they did a great job www.skihutmarine.com

Posts: 76 | I ran the 19' Recon all last year and I really enjoyed it. It has everything i need and want. I had well over 100 days on the water with it and put it through some testing thats for sure. Some of the high points are 99" beam, super stable at rest, rod locker holds 21 rods up to over 9' long, very dry ride, handles well in ruff water. I think the best part is the pricepoint. If you are in the market and what to get all you can for your money I would take a long look at the Recon. Tom Rozek FYI that was my boat at the championships last fall.

I just ordered a Recon 985 last winter and picked it up from Jerrys Sport Service in Beloit WI in early June and have been using it this summer. I love the boat and am very impressed with its construction, features, and the way it runs. I got it rigged with an Evinrude ETEC 200 HO and with that motor it will easily run at 55 mph. The boat runs smooth and dry and is a blast to drive. I looked at a few other boats including the Lund 1900 Pro V and Ranger 619 vs and considered Yar Craft, but in the end it came down to the 619 vs Recon 985. I mainly fish for musky and the Recon seemed to be just about the perfect musky boat with its rod storage which will fit a number of my musky rods up to 9 ft long its large casting decks, and large live/bait wells. I just couldnt see what advantage the Ranger had other than the name, and even with the boat fully loaded it came in at a significantly lower price than the 619. Plus I really enjoyed dealing with Jack Zimmerman at Recon. They arranged for me to go out with Tom Rozek for an afternoon of fishing the summer before I put in my order just so I could see how the boat handled and sent me pics of my boat when it was being built - to me that is impressive customer service. It is pretty much like getting a custom built boat and I liked the fact that I was dealing with a smaller Iola WI based maker who still owns his own shop and takes pride in his work. Was also happy with the service and rigging by Beaver at Jerrys Sport Service. I would definitely recomend checking out the Recon, glad I did. -Bob

Bob, I am looking at one of these boats as well. How do the front seats ride? Curious with the molded in pedestals how they ride. Working with the same dealer as you did.

Brian, Sorry its taken me some time to reply, haven't been on this site for a while. The front seats ride nice. They are very comfortable even at high speed, and easily adjustable (front back), they even swivel side to side a bit if I remember correctly. I can't wait to get my boat out and start musky fishing this season. A couple suggestions that you might want to consider (I am going to be taking my boat back to beaver in june to get these things done) They can install a high speed transducer on your hull, which is nice when you are going fast (it will give you a direct shot under your boat) - it kinda bugs me when I lose the view over 20-25 mph Also the thottle handle has a spacer piece that you might want to put on, without the spacer my finger pinches a bit on the side of the console when I open it up all the way Also I am going to get another prop - viper 23 inch I think, with that one the boat should be able to go 60 mph+ with the 200 hp evinrude HO, I think the one I have now is a 21 inch viper (put a nick in the prop last summer and it doesnt quite go as fast). If you have any other questions, I think Beaver can probably put you in touch with me, he should have my contact info. Hope you have a great time with your boat and enjoy it as much as I do mine. Had heard on another site that Joe Bucher will possibly be fishing out of a Recon soon. He seems to be a loyal Wisconsin guy having Yarcraft and Evinrudes in the past. Wonder with Yarcraft's ownership change if that changed his deal there. Also wonder why he hasn't fished out of a Tuffy - Wisconsin based and great set up for his style of fishing.

Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | i just spent the last few months looking at new boats and had narrowed my search to either Recon or Tuffy, The prices were almost identical but favored the Recon slightly. Just when i was about to pull the Trigger on a 2012 Recon, a used (07) Tuffy came up with only 80 hrs and all the options (2 gps, cover, trolling motor, 4 seats, 2 but seats, radio, and 2 props) for 12k less than new so i jumped on it! If that hadnt come up i would have a Recon in my garage right now. They looked like a great well made boat.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Maki Boat r like a investment unless you plan on keeping it for full depreciation. But look at resale and befoe you invest make sure you can get out with out to much of a loss, name brands carry lot of weight on that. How many recons have u seen running tonka, and what odd pepople will jump on it. So just some food for thought, it your going to run it for few year and want to sell Troy

Then he got a better deal with I think Champion, and went with them. Then he ran a Heckels rig, don't remember which brand but it was aluminum, Princecraft I think. Then he ran a Yar Craft, and now a Recon. He's run both Mercury and Evinrude products. TV sponsorship is what it is, and deals have to be made.

Posts: 518 Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | SWORRALL'S, RIGHT ON THE MONEY ON THIS ONE. Tuffy went out of their way for Bucher. I was at the boat show in the Tuffy both when he let them know that he was going with Ranger. A moment I will never forget. SWORRALL is being kind when he says deals have to be made, how true it is. I'm probably too young to remember when Joe Bucher ran a Tuffy...it just seemed like an ideal boat and layout for him with the kind of fishing he does (maybe an x-190). I like guys that are loyal to their roots and use the Wisconsin products. I'm also a small businessman and understand if Joe got better deals to use different boats I guess it makes sense. Anyone want to sponsor me on a new Tuffy
