I used to think that 45" and over was BIG fish. Now that I've been fishing the Moon River system for seven years, these "action" 50 inchers are common.

Catch and realese combined with the new size limit is directly responsible for the great succsess our family musky hunting club "Happy Hookers" has enjoyed.

But just how big is BIG anymore? I wonder just how big of a fish I can catch here...

I see anything over 45" as BIG, but I don't have a shot at that many that size, geographic limitations and all....but anything over 40" gets a photo session as far as I'm concerned!

I personally like the 54" limit....The Moon is a cherished resource, I am biased because I live near it..[:)] But I do agree I used to think a 45-50" was big, which they are, but the Moon Muskys are true giants.

NW Ontario has had quite a few lakes w/ 54" size limits for a few years now. In 2001 I counted ~ 22 waters w/ 54" limits in NW Ontario. Way to go! But truthfully I like it and think the MNR has a great stradegy of managing each lake individually.[:0] [] [] Wish the WI DNR would let each regional/local fisheries biologist manage his /her own lakes based on the lake's capabilities!!

Any muskie is worth the battle. I have always felt any day a muskie is released (ANY Muskie) is a good day. Big fish? For me, a really big fish is a 53 or better. A 'trophy' release is anything over 45".
