I have an LCX38 and an LCX111, networked. New batteries this spring. In theory, the "4000" antennae is the latest and greatest (for the LCX units). Ran into an issue where the units would work fine in the morning, then lose position after a few hours (losing and regaining position is a beep fest with these units). After charging all night, the units would be fine in the morning, but would again lose position a few hours later. The more consecutive days in the boat, the earlier each day this process would begin. Batteries and charger check out fine. Wiring checks out fine, except for some corrosion on the terminal ends of a few wires. Cleaned this up, and after a 3 hour test, no issues.

I'm no electrician. Could corrosion (and the resulting - apparently - poor connection) at the battery - I assume a voltage drop - cause my "position lost" issue? Anyone else experience anything like this? Losing GPS position on 500 acre Webster is no big deal. Losing GPS position on LSC could get me lost. Losing GPS position on the east end of Eagle could leave me stuck on a rock!

Yes it certainly could; it's not an issue with the unit if the connections are corroded.

On big water never rely only on your GPS make sure you have a chart nd compass and know how to use them. Periodically during the day note your position on the chart and the safe course home.

Have you checked your battery voltage when it starts to act up if it works in the morning your connections should be ok. Maybe have the battery load tested.I suspect your battery is not holding a full charge could be old OR DEFECTIVE.

Do you have a on/off switch for the power that feeds the network? The network/gps puck will always be drawing a small amount of power, even with the locators off, and will draw on the battery and over time can cause problems. Having the network always powered also increases corrosion on the wires, it has to do with the metals, general marine environment, and voltage, etc. I think they call it electrolysis. Its in the manual. Bottom line, you want that network off when not in use. The only other scenario would be if the network was wired to a battery with a big load- like the trolling motor and as it wore down over the course of the day your problem surfaces.

I had the "position lost", "position acquired" for awhile, I changed pucks and it is better. There still are days and locations that it happens, mostly stormy or overcast, foggy days, but overall better. It always seems that it works better for me in northern wi than se wi.

I had the same problem a few year back; it was a bad resister on one of the open ends of the backbone cable. It was trial and error to find the bad resister but once changed the problem was cured. This may be your problem.

This sounds like the first place you should be looking to me too... Obviously take care of that corrosion too as part of due diligence.

I've had a couple of different episodes of batteries going dead and affecting the electronics, each time the entire unit shut off, not just the GPS. I would look at the GPS/connections first based on my past experience.
