Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | Title says it all, looking to add something a little bigger in the mix this year. The 12" Custom X looks nice, too. What does everyone like?

Posts: 4 | The custom x 16" is a pretty sweet bait a lot of action did pretty good last fall with it, But the Grandma and Jakes can produce.

Posts: 313 Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | For a bigger bait, you should try to get your hands on a Duff Thury Supernatural or Headlock. Can get Supernaturals from Bigwood, Headlocks from Thornes. That said, if you can't get one of those, I never leave the dock without a few 14in Jakes if trolling has any chance of happening. Bottom line - Thury baits or Jakes get bit and are proven producers.

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | Headlocks, Supernaturals, 10" Slammer Deep Minnows (with trailer), Custom X. Can't go wrong with any of those, in addition to the standard Jakes and Grandmas. 13" Believers work, too...allegedly.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Just got my new Grunts in. Also having about 100 painted up in custom colors by Tyler from Tylers Basement Bait Creations. If you have any specific color you like email me and I can forward it on to Tyler. My 16" Grunts have a ~32 wide wobble. Here is my Grunt next to a 9" Grandma. Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | Thanks for the responses guys, keep them coming. For those who like the granny over the jake, what is the reason? I do really well w/ the 10" jake. The 12" big game looks like a great casting lure. I run the smaller sizes for casting, but I'd be concerned about the durability for trolling.

Posts: 944 | .The giant big games are very well made and good for trolling. Another real good big one is the MX12 from MuskieTrain. I got a few proto types last fall and was told to try and break them, I pounded the snot out of them into reefs on Eagle lake Ont. they held up great and caught some nice fish on them. Good luck, Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com

Posts: 1287 Location: WI | I've trolled and cast Jakes a ton, and have only caught 2 muskies on them. Grandmas... 10 fish in 2 weeks this past fall with a couple of them being big ones. I really doubt that I'll ever buy another Jake. I know other folks do well on them, who knows...maybe I'm doing it wrong! lol

what's the difference between a headlock and a supernatural?

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Headlocs are thinner with a little smaller lip and made of some sort of resin (I believe) and the Bigwood Supernaturals from Kyle are thicker and made out of wood. The response I got from Duff is the Bigwoods are a little more aggressive compared to a headloc while his Liplock is the most aggressive action of all three.

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | Headlocks are wood, at least at this point. There were some resin versions out there, but as far as I know they are all wood now. The Supernaturals are a thicker body than the Headlocks. The Liplocks are completely different bodies. They have an aluminum beam built into the body and are indestructible.

I take it that "aggresive" means a harder, wider wobble? Does either one seem to perform better at faster or slower speeds? I've heard that these baits have a substantial "wander" -are they both (or all three) similar in that aspect? Where would someone find the Liplock?

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | If you're looking for a Liplock, send me a PM and I'll get you some contact info. Duff builds them in small quantities and I don't believe any retailers carry them.

I have the same question as Guest regarding the differences bewteen the Headlock and Supernatural. Can anyone comment on whether the Supernatural or Headlock wander more than the other?

Posts: 906 Location: Canada | Hosebait - 12" Hose Daddy http://www.bigwoodmuskylures.com/lures.php?cat=crankbaits&make=Hose... The Flat Shads are a deeper running lure than you are asking about maybe, the ones at Big Wood are only 9.5" but Shawn does make a bigger version as I have four 11.5" Flat Shads.

Posts: 221 | 13" Grandma is a favorite "hush hush" bait around my area... Cast10K, in short, it puts a ton of big fish in the boat every fall, is more versatile (in that it can troll deeper then a Jake when needed), and I tend to favor bigger profiles overall. And there is NO comparison to the 9" version... totally different baits.

Posts: 313 Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | If forced to pick which Thury bait wanders more, I'd say the Supernatural. But Headlocks do also. Another huge advantage of these baits is the ability to use the different depth holes in the lips. The interchangeable nature is great, to add to that you can get different length pins for the line ties which can alter the lip angle and modify action even further. Once you have one of either of these baits, you'll simply have to have more.
