Posts: 78 | My wife has given me the green light to purchase a new boat and had a few questions. Other than being a little bigger what are the biggest differences in the 2 boats? Basically I will be musky fishing with it and the occasional Great Lakes Salmon fishing. Is it worth the extra bucks on the larger or would the money be better spent on the smaller with a larger motor and electronics? Just looking for people who have one or the other to comment on both. I plan on having this one for awhile so I want to make sure I get the right one.

Posts: 32901 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The 1700 is a great boat in small and big water, I ran one the last two seasons with a 90 HP motor. That said, if you are going to go out on truly big water and have three in the boat often, I'd recommend the 1760. If low 40's is fast enough, a 115 would be great on the 1760. I've run a couple 1760s too, great ride and better in the big stuff; the extra 8" out in front makes a difference. Also, the 1760 is available in a walk-through and dual console, and the 1700 single console only, if that's important to you.

The 1760 fishes and feels a lot bigger than any boat I've fished in of that size. It handles the big water a lot like a 19 or 20 footer. Pair it with the 150 Opti or the new 150 Mercury Fourstroke and you'll have one of the best rides out there in my opinion, I love the 1760!

Location: Des Moines IA | Go with the 1760, I own a 1700, and it handle three OK, and it would suffice for Big Water. But the 1760 is WAY more boat than just the 8 inches you see in specs in the brochure. With an opti 150, and a 9.9 kicker it'll almost do 50 in a single console version as well.

Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | I ran a 1700 with a 90hp in 2010 and 2011, this Feb i bought a 1760 with a 115. WAY different feel! Both boat ran great but the 1760 is so much bigger all around! I know its only 8 inches bigger in the brochure, but trust me there is no comparison! If you can afford it, go with the 1760, you wont regret getting a bigger boat. Either way both are very nice boats but i wouldnt go back. Good luck!

Posts: 148 Location: Northwest Wi. | I had a 1700GT for 7 years and liked it, But now have the 1760GC and LOVE it!! It's the smallest big boat you'll ever find..Went with a 140 Suzi. no need for a kicker..gets low 40s-MPH. Good on gas.
