Does anyone throw 2 pounders with this rod? Or is it to weak.

The St. Croix LT Big Dawg will throw 2lbers. You may need to lob them but the rod will hold up.

Here's my disclaimer: I have a Big Dawg rod but have not thrown 2lbers however I know folks who do with that rod. I absolutely love the Big Dawg rod for tossing pounders and monster dussas and can cast these baits all day no problem. I wouldn't think twice about using my Big Dawg rod for casting 2lbers if needed.

One suggestion is if you do think you'll be using the rod for 2lbers I would get the butt extended. I had the butt section on mine extended 2" which gives me more leverage for tossing the big stuff.

If you are looking at rods for this purpose there is the Predator XXH and some of the Musky Innovations rods.

Or just find a pool queue to cast with.... what i mean is a shorter stout rod 6'3" that has little flex.

I'm sure you could, but would you want to? I love the BD, have three of them. But for pounders and 2lbers I use a MI Monster Mag. It just makes it soooo much easier to actually cast those things AND not have any worries about overloading anything.

casting lures that big with a rod that short? thatd be a b*tch to do for even just 5 casts

go with a Predator XXH, TI XXH or one of the Monster Mag MI rods thats what theyre meant for. I have an XH predator which is a great rod for big rubber but I odnt know how id like throwing as big as a 2lbser with it.

A two pound bulldawg is a load to heave on a 40oz rated rod from either MI or Tackle Industries. I have a Big Dawg as well and must be missing something here. A Pounder is too much for the Big Dawg, let alone a lure double that size. Pretty sure the Big Dawg was brought to market for guys using magnum bulldawgs, seemingly the most popular size. I have the Big Dawg rod in front of me and a 2lb dawg in my hands and would likley shatter the rod trying to cast this thing. I'm callin BS on guys casting a 2lb dawg on the Big Dawg. Pounders are too much for it. Unless there are Big Dawgs that are rated a lot heavier, there's no way. The MI rod 40oz rod heaves the 2lber out, ni idea ho you'd try it on a rod as light as the Big Dawg.

JBush you're on crack. The Big Dawg is a great rod for Pounders... performance only rivaled only by the Predator XH. This is my opinion but I think the Big Dawg is the perfect mix of heavy action, light weight and durability for throwing big rubber.

Your opinion is that its a good rod or that I'm on drugs? Don't hold back, just come right out with it lol. Nice lol. My opinion is that there are a lot of rods that are good for 1lb plus lures and the Big Dawg isn't one of them. Definitely not even applicable for a 2lb.
Some of you gals are getting snarly these days! What's the right suburb to live in, to spear or not to spear, I don't want to join 'cause of the magazine haha Winternet still rolling steady in the sunshine hahaha.

The Big Dawg can chuck pounders all day, and is a great rod. Two pounders are not easy, but I have attempted a few times. I wouldn't recommend the Big Dawg as a standard rod for two pounders.

I'll 2nd that your on drugs jbush. Before I bought my XH predator there was a 2lber or mammoth sue on my big dawg from September - ice up. What guys fail to understand is that you don't want a broom stick when hucking monster baits. You need a rod that loads through the blank then unloads on the cast eg. Big dawg/XH predator. But what the heck do I know right Andy

Agree, the Big Dawg throws Pounders ALL day Long with No problem..... Now I don't throw 2 pounders, but I'm sure the Predator xxH would do the job just great.
