Redoing the interior of a new for me 97' Stratos 217, and I'm thinking of doing a rear casting deck. Anyone ever do one? Looking for pics, advice, etc. Also looking for advice on replacing the carpet and hatches. The boat is all stripped down to the glass and the doors and hinges are off. Any other advice on updating an older boat would be appreciated. Thanks- Andy

Andy, I have a 171 Hydra-sports, that I bought new in 1998. I whould think It is the same boat hull as your boat, Lenth 17'7 Beam 84 Hp 150, as the they were both OMC boats all I did was make a casting deck with 1/2' outdoor plywood and 2by4's. I have three 2@4's run across one on each end and one acroos the middel in wich I put a insert for the but seat. The 2@4's fit tight to the inside, and the plywood lt lays flat with the bait and live well doors I then caarpeted the deck with marin carpet. I used St steel scwews to hold the thing togeather and it fit's in really tight . I didn't fasten it down as it fits in and is hard to pull out and is quite heavy. I leave a boat stand and seat in it and it has never blown out,but with out the seat in it might. On the road I allways have a boat cover so that is not in issue. This gives me room for 3 large tackel boxes under it and I just lift it up to get at the bait boxes. The deck has served me well for 12 years most of it Guiding for muskies. and my clients allways liked the setup. Pm me for more info if you whant. Marv.
