| Has anyone ever crossed the border at Roseau is it a busy crossing. This will be my first trip to Canada just wondering what to expect. And what about the video phone we are staying at a island resort on the Canada side

| I would go through Warroad. It is open 24 hours as I believe Roseau closes at certain times in the evening. The video phone has two options, a Canadian button that connects you to their services, and an American button that connects to the US services. Just press and have vehicle and boat licenses, as well as birthdates, ready. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | Not a busy crossing, wait times will be very short. Not a 24 hour customs 8am till midnight I think. You'll need to check back into the US Customs at Jim's corner (you'll see the signs), and then if you are staying at a Canadian resort you'll need to check in with Canadian Customs at Young's Bay (you'll see the signs). Not as bad as it sounds! If you have a RABC, you can launch and head right out to your island destination. Doug Johnson |

| I frequently go through the Roseau crossing and its usually fairly a quick experience (unless there is a shift change at Polaris). One suggestion: The Canadians interview you from the passenger side of your vehicle. make certain to roll down the back window on the passenger side if you have one. Also if you have an RABC its not a bad idea to hand it to them with your passport/id. |

| Thanks for the info. Because its on a two lane road did not know how back up it would get. One more question should I leave my boat covered going through or take it off to save time.

I've crossed multiple times at Roseau, and the Canadian border patrol has never given me grief over having the boat covered. Back in the 80's one of cars in our fishing group had two guys with long hair, full beards, wearing sunglasses, and probably offering one word responses. Canadian border patrol literally took their car apart, while the rest of us watched and rolled in laughter...
If your're going up to the Northwest Angle, you definately want to have a tight fitting boat cover. Boats trailered on that road without a cover will be a mess. Also, unless your trailer paint job is already pitted and rusted, consider purchasing one of the rock/mudguards that attach to the rear of your vehicle. 30+ miles of gravel will have a significant impact on your trailer paint job and the side clearance lights. I have seen many guys wrap both their trailer and boat bow in blue polyethlene tarps trying to minimize gravel damage.
The bright spot is that NW Angle fishing is awsome, and worth the drive! Tight lines! |
