Hi all just wondering what type of trolling line you prefer...searched this section and see lots use mono and braid so hoping a poll will help steer me in the right direction thank you

Braid works, mono works, floro is sweet for leaders, leadcore = walleyes in belly. If i could vote again I'd suggest wire. shane

thanks for replies so far looks like the majority use braid as their primary trolling line of choice so far. I'm now thinking of spooling up 65 or 80lb braid on the reel.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | short line trolling 100lb braid with a 4 foot F/C Leader, long line trolling 65lb or 80lb braid with a 3 foot F/C Leader. Also I use a very soft and a 10 foot trolling rod.

Location: 31 | I switched from braid to 50lb mono for all my shallow water trolling, I will never go back. However, for you braid guys who use the same type of line for casting... I would spool the entire wide spool trolling reel (just over 500'), then when it was time to change out (about 300'), I would reverse the 300' of used trolling line onto one of my empty casting reels, then reverse onto a different casting reel that had a 1/4 spool of backing, that 1/4 spool would get reversed again onto a 1/2 spool of backing (to about a min of 150'), after that it was time to pitch it with almost none wasted. Reversing line on reels is nothing new, but if you use the same line for both casting and trolling you can save a lot of $ on line this way if you have enough reels. Plus have the comfort of a full spool of new line without knots when you get snagged with a 1/2 dozen lines out. I always put the full spooled reels on my outside board rods with either line.

Location: 31 | One thing I kind of miss with the mono is the way you totally feeling the head shakes with the braid, it's a less intense fight now, but I also lose less fish with the mono.
