| Hey All, I'm about to upgrade my musky rig for the first time in many years and am looking for some advice. If you had around $200 (give or take $40) to spend on a new "all-purpose" reel, which would you choose and why? I would love a 400 TE, but the $360 price tag is just too steep for a reel that I'll only use 10 days a season. I've used Abu C3's for the past 10 years and am ready to treat myself a little bit after the tax return. Feel free to add any options that I may have missed. | |||

Believe me i did a lot of benchmark test on them . Better go with a calcutta or calcutta te or daiwa japanesse last for year and year .

GAT GUNS in Dundee IL has 401TE's for $335, I would have spent the extra $50 for a new one , especially before buying one from a guide.

| Posts: 13 | if your looking for a good real try the shimano curado 300e. i recommend this real for 2-5 ounce baits. dont use this reel for dcgs10-13s. it will work for smaller bucktails. or get the calcutta 400b or 400te. all these are good choices but you should choose them based on prefrence and baits. good luck. | ||

| Posts: 84 Location: Buffalo Grove, IL | A website out east recently had a 20% off sale on everything in the store. I think they do this a few times a year. I got a brand new 400 TE for $295.99 shipped. They had the Calcutta 400B for $183.99. That's beside the point of the original post though. Aside from sale prices, I would say a good reel in the $200-240 range would be a 400B or the Luna. I have both and they perform very well. | ||

| Wow, thanks for all of the replies and feedback! I should've mentioned that I have a $100 BassPro gift card from wifey, which is a tough call for me because they don't carry the Luna or the old Toro(obviously). With their trade in deal right now, I can also get an additional discount with a trade-in. So, I can essentially get a new Calcutta B for about $100 total out-of-pocket. Even with all of the discounts, a new TE would still cost me $250 out of pocket, which is a bit rich for me. But, I'm paying near retail price and sales tax for both of those reels. My other option is just to use the gift card for a new rod and get a Luna or used TE on E*ay. Dang, I'm torn... Thanks. | |||
