I will be in the twin cities for a wedding in late August. I have never fished in Minnesota so not sure where to start. I will not have my boat so I will be hiring a guide. We are staying near tcf stadium. Would like to keep drivetime at about an hour or less from there. Any thoughts on lakes or guides?

Is it worth the trip up to mill lacs? Is there a better shot at a huge fish heading up there? Does Minnetonka have bigguns or is it more numbers? Father of the groom turns 50 so we were going to surprise him with a guided fishing trip. Thanks for your help guys.

Check out Ski Patroll guide service with John Hoyer. John knows Minnetonka better than almost anybody and with over 120 fish in the boat last year with 19 being +50" you've got a good chance of putting hooks to a good one.

Tonka has lots of big fish. I live in the twin cities, and if I had to choose between Tonka and Mille Lacs, I'd choose Tonka. If Tonka were 500 miles from Minneapolis, it'd still be an incredible destination. It's an incredible body of water and while the scenery isn't northwoods, it's kind of fun to see all the mansions and hot chicks.

John Hoyer catches more big muskies on Tonka than anybody I know. He may be related to Chuck Norris for all I know. This kid just makes them appear! If I were to hire a guide on Tonka it would be him. If I wanted to learn about the benefits of using a power pole for 'skis, I would hire Bob Turgeon! jk, seriously only kidding, Bob is also 'The Man', can't go wrong either way.

On Minnetonka:
Myself, Hoyer, Ben Olson, Travis Frank, Andy Hamm, Josh Brovosky and a few others can all get the job done. There are some others who guide out there as well but these are the guys I know the best and they all can produce.

Probably just as important is what you are looking to get out of your day, everyone has a style and different skills, matching them up to what you are looking for is important. There are other lakes and the river close by as well. Millacs is a crap shoot for a one day outing...it could be spectacular or a total bust. Fish densities are better here in town but the shot at a true full figured giant is better to the north.

Thanks for the shout outs guys,
BT
