First time using gold leafing foil. Turned out pretty cool, but it was definitely a laborious process.

I had to work backwards-from the tail forward. Every leaf "scale" that I put down I had to shade before I laid the next row. Wheew!

The pics don't do it justice, but you get the idea.

The bait is a 2012 "Heckler" topwater . I have been in the process of redoing the shape so that it can accomadate the 7/0 hooks better than the previous style. I will have this new style available at Georges show

Beautiful paint job. Keep up the good work. It's probably overkill for a topwater, but very impressive nonetheless!

I can't even imagine how much time went into that. Looks fantastic! Gold foil is touchy, but it looks like you've got it figured out.

Thanks Guys,

Knooter, it's not gold foil. It is gold leafing. Each one of the scales was cut out and burnished on. Total pain in the ....

Way overkill for a bait, just wanted to try it out to see if it would work.

Pikie- the Caprtain already tried to snag it

wow that looks amazingly cool, i cant believe you decided to do a actual gold leafing. it must have taken forever to do, especially when you have to shade each individual scale, talk about a total pain in the a**. just out of curiosity how long did it take to complete the whole thing?
when i do the same thing with paint it takes usually around 15 mins or so to make one bait, of course it depends on the size of the bait too.

Mikko,

It took about 45mins per side. I don't know if I would do it agian, but I have had the foil for about 6 years Every year, I told myself I was going to do it, but put it off.

The paint way is a pain too. I have done some of those over the years as well. Cool looking, but time absorbing . All this to catch a fish!

Sometimes I wonder which side of the line has the pea brain

Come on Joe, Gold Leaf? is that the best you can do or are you saving the best stuff for the Mn show in April? You always seem to have something in your back pocket that only a select few or a really persistent person could see. I'll be waiting in front of your house when you get back from your road trip. Keep up the above average work.

WOW, awesome looking bait! That pattern would be awesome on the rumors also, as Capt. Bigfish said, I wonder if a guy should start stalking Trueglide management now to get in on a preseason order....

Good luck stalking me right now . You would get quite a few frequent flyer miles trying to keep up with my crazy work travel

I did make a few Rumors ( 9" and 12") in that same color. Just paint though- no gold leaf.

I will have them at George's show in April.
