I recently bought a 400 te and bought a power handle yesterday from Rollie and Helen's at the Ohio Musky Show. I went to put the power handle on today and the star drag hits the contour in the handle. The star drag won't turn all the way around. I picked up the handle that the guy from Rollie's said would work on the te. Any suggestions or did I miss something simple when I put the power handle on my te. Thanks for the help!

1st , send the handle to Daves Reel Service and get it machined so the nut will have more threads to bite. If not, you may have issues "stripping" the threads on the post. Bad news. The thickness of the handle is considerable. The star drags on mine do hit the handle and have scratched it but it's just the nature of the beast. Just my experience. You will LOVE the power of your new reel. Best I've ever used and I've used a few in the last 35 years. Good luck!

The "shank" on the 700 bsv handle is thinner and therefore shouldn't need any mods.

400 te handle. When looking at the power handle and the stock handle side by side the power handle is thicker.

Thanks for the help!

You are fine. I have the same thing and it hits. I have NOOOOOO idea why this is made like this from SHIMANO but it is. As another has said send that thing to Daves Reel Service to have it counter sunk. If you don't, like I didn't, I was in a hurry to go try it out you WILL strip the threads off of the drive shaft. Have it done at Daves reel service I have had two done there and he is quick and cheap. Very nice support you can just email them and he gets back to you for pricing. Actually shipping is more then the machining.

I had the same issue. I put the handle in a vise and straightened out some of the bend. Didn't affect the performance of the handle at all, and eliminated the star drag problem.

My handle was machined by Mark at Dave's reel service...makes a big difference.

Did you guys also do the upgrade on the ball bearings and drag that Dave's reel repair offers on the calcutta te?

Thanks for the help,
Ray

If your adding a Trinidad Power Handle to a Calcutta TE that is over 2 years old I would replace the #1223 Retractor Spring and #2711 Clutch Pawl Spring, or the reel could engage on the cast. The stock spool bearings are fine unless they are worn out, but you can replace the stock plastic bushing on the spool with a ABEC 5-7 S.Steel bearing that will keep the spool from flexing on hook sets and the reel will feel a little smoother on the cast and retreive. Carbontex drag washers are the best to replace the stock drag washers. I also have Ceramic Level Wind Pawls you can replace the stock soft steel Pawls. I to stock alot of parts for all Calcutta reels both TE and the 400A and B. Mark from Daves Reel Service is on top of the game with reels and his Dad is the best.

I will have to put mine in a vise too. It just touches enough to make you mad. Its not like the handle or reel were cheap to start with.
