| I know there is another post about this but trying to get some other questions answered. I am also planning a trip to Cave Run in April and was wondering how fishing was down south this time of year. Lure choices? Lodging info from people who have fished the Cave? Thank you for the help and FISH ON! |

| Well, the normal approach, given the water isn't too messed up, is to throw jerkbaits or rattletraps in the shallow bays. The rattletrap thing , to me, doesn't seem like the magic elixir it used to be, because the fish get absolutely hammered with them. I guarantee there will be guys throwing rattletraps down there this weekend. They are still effective though, as the PMTT was even won last year by throwing one. Of course, there were alot of guys throwing them who didn't catch anything too. Just don't think that is all you should do. Other small crankbaits will work as well. If the waters up, don't forget jigging the flooded brush. Very underutilized this time of year, and bass fishermen usually outfish musky guys under these conditions. April can be tough on the Cave, and much like March, there will be more lousy days than good ones. Still, if you time the conditions right, it can be a great trip. Good luck. |

Location: MN | I have a buddy that goes down and fishes CR every spring for the last 4 years. He always comes back and tells me how they throw rattle traps everyday, at least one guy. He tells me that many people refer to them as the "cowgirl of the reservoir" They love them because they can be worked so effectively down the banks and drop offs, even when the water is up or down 15-20 feet. They are also are very easy to fish and can cover water very quickly. I do agree with Chubs, fishing is not different there as it is at "home." Fish are going to eat what they want when they want it, so don't limit yourself to a narrow number of tactics. |

I have been going down to the Cave for the last 9 Springs(except last spring).
It seems that every spring is somewhat different.
Shallow 10-2 ft.deep and sometimes 10- 25 ft.deep.
I've caught fish on Double 10's, reef hawgs,phantoms,Dawgs, Mag. dawgs, Twitch baits, Weagles,spinner baits, hell hounds,shad raps, rattle baits, Double D's and small buck tails
Cave Run takes a little while to figure out, but there are some pretty nice muskies in there for sure.
lodging: Tony Grants place, Comfort Inn, Check out Crash Mullins Site, and Morehead KY for other lodging ideas.

| Just hire a guide. With Tony Grant and Gregg Thomas doing 3 days lodging and 2 days guided for 595 it does not even make sense to haul the boat down yourself. And that way even if the water is dirty or high as hell you know u will still have a good chance at a nice fish |

| Agree with Spencer, went last year , later in the Summer , water was HIGH AS HELL and we fished with Lance "Lance Guides for Gregg" and he had us on fish . The water was in the parking lot. Worth every penny . |
