Posts: 66 Location: North Central, Indiana | Thinking of going to Vermillion, the first part of July for a summer vacation. A little worried about all the summer time boaters. I usually go to Canada where it isn't quite so crowded. Just wondering what it's like and if there is plenty of spots to get out of the main traffic and do some fishing (Musky, Pike & Walleye). Thanks, muskydg

Hey muskydg----- the "rumors" about Vermilion being a zoo in the summertime are true, unfortunately. However----there is PLENTY of unabused water to search where you won't get run over by a fast moving boat. Night fishing is very productive at that time of year----BUT keep your nav lights on----- lotsa traffic at night out there. Get your big blades and big topwaters out----and you'll do just fine. Plenty of weeds and rock spots to pound till your arms fall off. I stayed at VDL cuz it was "centrally located" and you can go EAST or WEST easily from there. Big water with BIG muskies in it------ Vermilion has it all! Good Luck----Jobu

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | The East End has less weeds than the West end, and the last couple of yrs. the Walleye bite has been a little bit better on the East side. Muskie wise, there are some really big fish in the whole lake. , You may "see" 10-20 fish a day,...... but.... getting them to eat is a challenge, for sure. I personally think that the West End has more and bigger Pike because of the weeds. Bass are also abundant on both Ends, and really fun to catch. The East end may also see more fishermen during the summer than the West End. Like others said: keep your lights on at night, and be careful. Jerome

Posts: 313 Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | West End can also be more fishable in stout wind/bad weather as much of the East End is wide open. Depends on what kind of rig you intend to fish in, but the irregular bays and islands create "smaller water" on the West.
