[:0] I recently listed an Ambassadeur reel in the these Classifieds and sold it almost immediately. The buyer was from Rochester and we arranged a meeting at a Chautauqua Lake launch site for Saturday at first light. Friday night it hit me I oughta’ put the reel on a rod so I could show him the intricacies of the Anti Backlash version. I did that, hung an old Grassels spinner on the snap and walked out on my dock to make a cast or two to take the cobwebs out. Inna’ dark, mind you, with not but a sliver of a moon. On about the third cast I heard a plop-plip as something hit the water at my feet. I stuck the penlight between my teeth, rotated the reel and noted at once that the spool end cap was missing. That’s the one tucked under the star drag that you couldn’t get off in less than ten minutes even if you tried real hard. Never mind, it was gone; along with the brass thing-a-ma-jigs that go under it.
I retreated to my bench, stole an end cap and thingy off an old worn out 5500 and it went on – but didn’t fit just right. At least I could demonstrate the reel. I pulled up to the unloading portion of the ramp just as the buyer, Mark, and his buddy Sam were readying the boat for launch. I made a few casts for Mark, showed him how the reel operated and owned up to losing parts off’n it the night before. I told him to take it, get the parts I had highlighted on a parts explosion downloaded from Garcia’s web site, deduct the amount from what he owed on the reel and mail me a check. I felt so bad that he wouldn’t have the immediate use of the reel that I threw in the rod and the bucktail.
My question is – who among you knows of a fast, reliable Garcia Ambassadeur parts guy that may stock the handle side end cap and thingy for a 5600AB? I’d like to pass the info to Mark so he gets a chance to use the reel before snow flies – which may be toward the end of the week. They caught a ‘couple fish that day – 35 and 36 inchers – so I expect they’ll be back for at least one more trip – even if it does mean a 4 A.M. departure. Many thanks in advance for the help!!!

I don't know about an OEM handle but if he was interested in a power handle try www.hatterasoutfitters.com they have all sorts of Garcia parts. They might even have the original handle. They are very quick and reasonable.

Thanks Wormburner for the tip--I think I've been there on our family's annual vacation on the Outer Banks. I also run up and fish flounder with my buddy in Poquoson, VA.

However, it's not the handle that I lost but the end cap for the spool and the brass spacer thingy between the spool axle and the inside of the end cap.

Thanks again for the help!!!

Try www.southwesternparts.com they have the parts you need. I was eating a hot cinnimon roll and pecans flew out my nose.

I know the part you need, and am amazed it 'fell off'. I agree, the thing will NOT come off easily if you want it to, no way. Hope the parts are easy to find...[:0]

I had the exact same thing happend to me this year, only mine went tink, tink, bloop. and watched it sink in the water, called up abu and in 3 days had the new parts. I have a hard time taking this off but during a cast it comes right out. Weird.
