How much better are the 580s vs. the 400s? Is there a noticeable difference in clarity, ability to see fish/structure, et cetera? I'm currently using Oakleys, and I don't have many complaints, but I'd like to try Coasta's glass lenses. I've heard that some people can't tell much of a difference between the 400G and the 580G.

I've got the costas with the wave 400 lens, Samantha has the 580's. Frames are exactly the same, fit is the same. I tried comparing them side by side out on the water and I really didn't see much difference. The 580's seemed a little clearer, but that might just be because I know they were more expensive and they are supposed to be "better". If I didn't know which pair was which, I don't know that I'd be able to tell them apart.

I feel like the 400Gs will be plenty for me. Any thoughts on lens color? I'm currently using regular grey, but I'm considering the Amber/Green Mirror ones. I've used cheapo amber lenses, and I wasn't a big fan for on-the-water use, but I was hoping the Green Mirror might make them better. I just don't want to spend the money and not like them.

Location: beloit | What color is the water that you most often fish? I have the grey lenses in my costas and they are awesome for clear water but suck on stained water like the chip. I don't have the amber with green mirror to comment on those but I do use a pair of tiffosi with amber lenses for the chip and they work extremely well. |

I would say it's generally lightly stained. It's never clear like the MI waters, but it's not the chocolate-milk brown either. If there's no rain for a few days it gets reasonably clear, but not unbelievably clear. If it rains you're looking at three days of stained or cloudy water.

Location: beloit | You should be OK with the grey lenses then |

Yeah. I've been using grey lenses in my other glasses. I was just thinking of trying something new.

I've got one pair with the gray/blue mirror and one pair with the amber/green mirror lens. The gray lens is a lot darker. It's great on bright sunny days, fishing out on the gulf or other large bodies of water. But for most of my fishing I prefer the amber/green mirror lens. The gray lens is too dark for early mornings/dark cloudy days/evenings/during a storm. The only thing I don't like about them is they fog up pretty bad on cold rainy days. Not sure any brand doesn't though.

Well I had it narrowed down to grey/blue mirror, straight grey, and amber/green mirror. I was afraid the grey/blue mirror would be too dark for low-light conditions, so I think that's out. Hows does the ambler/green mirror work on bright days? Does the green mirror help to block the light and cut glare? It was hard to wear amber lenses when it was really bright.

The amber/green is fine on sunny days. The polarization is what cuts the glare so that's not an issue. The few times I wore them and wished I had the gray/blue I was 12 miles out in the gulf of mexico, fishing into the sun, mid afternoon.
